Bosch AKE 30 LI Cordless Chainsaw with 36 V Lithium-Ion Battery, 30 cm Bar Length

Well, I wasn't expecting too much of the battery life, I have to say. I knew that as Bosch always make good quality tools, it would be well put together, and it is. It was well packed by the manufacturer, and easy enough to assemble, though if you have weak hands, you will have a job tightening the chain cover well enough and undoing it again. I have 2 petrol chainsaws I use for various prposes. My 34cc Ryobi is a beast, with a long bar and powerful engine, and can hack through thick tree trunks with ease. It is very heavy and uses a lot of 2 stroke. My little Makita is great for smaller jobs.This Bosch, I intended to use for pruning thicker branches on bushes and thinner ones on small trees, and the odd log or two for the fire. However, I was surprised to find that after the second charge, the battery had enough life in it to do a good hour's pruning in the garden (obviously not running all the time!) and then have enough life to chop up a whole large barrow full of logs.The saw does NOT like ordinary chain oil - the recommended oil is MUCH thinner, so if you try ordinary oil don't be surprised if it won't feed, and you overheat the chain. You could probably use standard saw chain oil watered down with veg oil, but Bosch say anything other than theirs invalidates the warranty, so wait until it is a couple of years old before you try! Chains seem well made, by Oregon, so best quality, and easily available as spares. As I have a 36 Volt Rotak lawnmower (see other review), which came with 2 batteries, choosing this was an easy option, and I have just ordered a 36V Hedge trimmer to complete the set.Very pleased!

I purchased this chain saw in January 2013 to complement a small and a medium sized conventional i/c engined saw. It does indeed prove useful when there is a lot of stop and start branch trimming. It has a novel system for clamping the chain and adjusting the tension on the chain, both without needing to use a tool. Another useful feature is the sight glass for checking the level of chain oil. It is of course a good deal quieter than the equivalent i/c engined version and battery life is good. On the negative side, for one reason or another, debris is forced behind the plaque retaining the chain, finally stopping the chain altogether. Another negative is that the brake is close to the hand holding the machine and if one is wearing protective gloves it is all too easy to inadvertently apply the brake. It is also rather heavy compared with petrol-engined versions.Addendum dated 24.09.2015: further experience has confirmed all the above but, in addition, I was using the saw on light duty yesterday when smoke billowed from the motor. That is the end of the story I guess. Taking this together with two Bosch battery chargers dying just outside the guarantee period - one 18v and one 36v - to which Bosch's response was to offer to mend them for more than the cost of a new unit, I am now looking elsewhere for my battery driven hand tools.2nd addendum dated 19.11.2017 - subsequently I have purchased a Greenworks battery operated chainsaw which is a great improvement on the Bosch - doesn't clog so easily, battery charge indicator, brake on alarm, chain oil level window, etc.

This is an excellent Cordless Chainsaw, reasonably light weight, used it on receipt for around 4 hours,did a great job felling a number of small trees, very easy to adjust the chains tension. A GOOD BUY!!!!!!8 months on being May 2017 the machine no longer works, it's completely dead, I now have to arrange collection by Bosch to sort the problem out.

Was surprised how light this item is, although the saw feels cheap it is well constructed and easy to use. Fitting the chain was straight forward and the instructions provided were clear for easy operation and maintenance. I use this for cutting wood for my wood burning fire, has a good amount of power and great battery life.

Initially this chain saw in use exceeded expectations of a product from Bosch. Then after limited use and 6 months after purchase the rechargeable battery system would charge the battery for two minutes only then indicate that the battery was fully charged. In short it is now not possible to fully charge the saw. I am also not entirely sure if it is the battery or the charger that's at fault. Amazon have no warranty service on this product and the overall return policy expired one month after purchase. So I am on my own and will have to take up the claim with Bosch directly. I would not recommend anyone to purchase this saw as there are as good models out their for significantly less in price which are probably more reliable.

Great item. Worked very well for the tree surgery I wanted it for. Battery seemed to last well. Easy to use. Very pleased. Price I paid was very competitive compared to other offers I could find on Amazon and elsewhere.

I LIKE IT BUT IT DOES USE A LOT OF CHAIN OIL WHICH HELPS PACK THE SAW DUST AROUND THE DRIVE COG-WHEEL.
