Great product that really works reproofed a feather coat and water repellency is like new and no clumping of the feathers.

Just remember to wash your coat before you wash again with the nikwax! Works well and is easy to use in a washing machine.

Works as advertised - my down jacket is now wonderfully waterproof. My only complaint is the smell of the product. Even after a month of wearing it on and off, you can still smell the product on my jacket.

I've used the NikWax system for many years now in our washing machine to clean and re-proof my out-door all-weather gear, both walking jackets and trousers, but especially my ski clothing as that has endured a hard life and is showing its age. Fortunately a wash-out-dirt and wash-in-proof treatment with the pair ( Down Wash and Down Proof ) of Nikwax chemicals rejuvenates the old fabric restoring good water repellency and thermal insulation and yet still allows it to breathe. It cannot be perfect and as the old garment goes through the rough and tumble of a ski-trip it becomes more vulnerable to the hazards of wet snow, but I only need to re-proof once a year for a few weeks of skiing. And it is a lot cheaper than spending a small fortune on a new ski-outfit. Walking gear in more regular use needs more frequent treatment. It is important to follow the instructions on the bottles, and make sure the washing machine insides are clean of detergent and fabric conditioner before using the NikWax system. I normally do a batch of two washes followed by two proofs, with the most important garments held back for the last wash and last proof. The Down Wash and Down Proof allow the organic fluff to remain at maximum volume for maximum insulation, much better than some of the other specialist proofing treatments which can clog the very fine fibres in a down filling. Even Goretex finally begins to leak, and this system even helps there too, but it is better to use the TX Direct alternative if it uses something like Thinsulate instead of down insulation.

Nikwax downproof works incredibly well to waterproof down garments. Since applying this to my down jackets, I haven't had any issues with wetting out, even in sleet and light rain. The outer face fabric beads water like new; and while a regular DWR treatment would work to keep the outer face fabrics water repellent, this product also gives the down itself some hydrophobic qualities. Keep in mind that this product does tend to leave a waxy, almost tacky feeling on your hands and sink when applying, but washes off easily enough with some hot water and scrubbing. The downwash is fantastic for when your down garments start smelling a little funky. While the downwash is an unscented product, it did a fantastic job removing all the absorbed skin oils from my down garments and left them smelling "factory-fresh" or practically scent-free. I also found that it restored some loft in my down jackets and left them feeling very light and airy.
