MUHWA 8 Well Aluminum Cooling Block for 5ml/15ml Tubes, Pack of One

I've always been shocked by how much research product companies who will remain nameless expect you to pay for a machined piece of aluminum. This unit fits 15 ml conical "Falcon" tubes just as it should, and after 10 minutes in the -80C it will keep your samples cold for quite some time. I think you could probably even put this in heat block if you wanted the opposite effect, I just need chilling more than heating in our lab workflows.I like the price, the performance, the color, and the form factor (not too huge of a footprint on the bench).I don't like the sharp scuff that it came with (see pictures), obviously from the factory since it was like that inside the careful bubblewrap plastic. But really, if that scuff is the only concession for costing a quarter what the big brands cost, then I'll take it every time! This is a great value on a solid piece of equipment for the bench that will get lost or stolen by another lab before it ever diminishes in performance. Highly recommended.

I was surprised by the weight, expected aluminum to be 'light' for some reason; once my metallurgy kicked in it was just a personal 'duh' moment. All metals come in varying densities, and therefore heft. Don't drop it, this will break stuff.

Very nicely manufactured product. Manufactured from aluminum, likely 6061-T651. The sides and end are finished using conventional milling. The top and bottom is fly cut. Good consistent finishes all around. The idea is the use this as a cooling block based on the good thermal conductivity of 152 W/M K. However, there are also many application for which it was not designed. I am going to use it in my CAD drawing class as a perfectly executed example of the design intent.

The media could not be loaded. This block fits vials well. Both giving me a place to put them down safely. And the aluminum block tends to draw heat away from the vial. Helping to keep it cool

I ordered 3 of these in different tube sizes from the same seller. I am a student at a research lab located within a university. I mostly use them for qPCR technique and found all 3 of them very useful. They maintain the cold temperature for long enough to complete 1 round of qPCR preparation. However, I would recommend using it on ice if the preparation takes longer than 1 hour.

This is just as described. I will order 2 more today, I am very happy with this.

I'm using it too hold taps and drill bits. It makes it very easy to find what I need. Very well made solid aluminum block.

Aluminum block for keeping PCR type 96-well plates cool while working. It is conductive so you need to keep it on ice if working more than a minute or two. Inner wells are straight, not tapered like a typical PCR tube so it will not transfer heat away as efficiently as more expensive versions that conform to individual wells.... but it is < $100 so still good value and better than sitting plates or strip tubes on ice.

Chiunque debba fare, per lavoro o passione, delle real time, sa che dopo aver caricato la mix nella piastra è essenziale tenerla fredda in ghiaccio durante il caricamento del campione fino al caricamento nel termocilatore. Generalmente questo lo si fa posizionando la piastra in ghiaccio, tuttavia si bagna e non risulta ben ferma, utilizzando questo supporto le reazioni rimangono ben refrigerate e la piastra rimane salda, potenzialmente prevendo artefatti nelle reazioni causati da una precoce azione della real time. Questo supporto inoltre può essere utilizzato anche per le comuni PCR, che soffrono di più di questo problema.

Blocco in alluminio, perfetto sia come semplice rack per dare contrasto ad una plate da PCR e vedere meglio il contenuto dall'alto, che effettivamente come refrigerante.Se si mette a -20 il blocco per qualche decina di minuti, poi agisce non solo da rack per la plate (o le strip), ma mantiene anche la temperatura controllata per evitare di degradare primers o altro di termolabile che si possa utilizzare durante i nostri esperimenti.
