Review: Review of Hypnotherapy by Dave Elman - An excellent book! This was written by Dave Elman who specialised in training Doctors and Dentists in hypnosis over the course of 17 years making him the best known and most successful teacher of hypnosis in the USA. He only wrote one book and this is it. It was the textbook for his medical hypnosis course. Written in plain, down to earth language I highly recommend it. Review: Written from a position of authority - A simple title and a simple cover both in keeping with straight forward writing capturing both the history and the practical practice of hypnosis. Much of the book draws on recording of teaching sessions and client sessions such that at the end i felt like i had been there. A testament, perhaps, to the power of suggestion. Elman writes with the authority of someone who has spent time practicing, reflecting and refining his skills including his skill in teaching others. Whilst the greatest benefit is likely to those who are interested in the practice of hypnosis it is also a fascinating read for anyone interested in the subject but wary of the "stage magician" approach. I highly recommend it.

A cutting edge must read book.
I got interested in hypnotherapy recently and needed a book to guide me into it as a complete beginner. This book is a must read. Even though it has been written some time ago, it is more cutting-edge and more modern than most books published last year. This is due to the fact that the author is extremely openminded and also experienced, which in the end really benefits the reader. This book is heavily based on the authors own experience, rather than beign overly theoretical. I absolutely enjoyed this foundation in experience as it lets me learn a lot in very little time. All in all, possibly the best buy I made on Amazon in a long time.

Must buy and read, for any Hypnotherapist
In some ways dated - but essential and fascinating reading for any Hypnotherapist. Good quality book and the only one ever written by Dave Elman himself.

Fab book!
This is a really great read, to the point and informative, if you want a concise history of hypnosis with really good examples of the authoritarian style of hypnotic delivery this is it. Some allowance has to be made for the writing style of the scripts as it was written 50 or so years ago, but anyone with half a brain can get their head round that. I'd recommend this book to anyone.

Excellent
There are a lot of hypnotherapy books out there on the market, but if you are just starting out get this one. Simple, straightforward and down to earth - and most of the others seem to just take his methods and re-write them. Can also confirm that but following the Elman process - it works!!

livre de très bonne qualité. Couverture rigide. "A l'ancienne". Livre commandé dimanche, reçu lundi matin avant 8 h 30 ! Quelle logistique ! - - - Super contenu. Merci Dave.

I was a bit put off by the high price of this book, but it was definitely worth the read. For anyone interested in the possibilities of hypnosis for modern medicine and dentistry, this book is a must-read. Dave Elman was a master hypnotherapist, teaching physicians, dentists and psychologists back in the 1950s how to do what they should already have been taught in their training. This book is full of stories, examples and dialogues with clients that demonstrate his ability to work successfully with a stunning array of people. It is truly amazing that it has taken over 50 years since his work in order for hypnosis to begin emerging as the tool for personal transformation that it is. Although the history of hypnosis is much older that that, it has long suffered the indignity of scorn by those who don't understand it, fear it or simply believe it can't really work. The book gives examples of induction methods, including what is now called the classic "Dave Elman Induction", as well as the use of hypnosis in dozens of physical and mental conditions. Since these uses are reserved today only for licensed professionals, and since licensed professionals usually shy away from or shun anything that is not considered mainstream, hypnosis is most often used today for behavior modification issues, such as weight loss or smoking cessation. Yet this book is still valuable to the non-professional, as it demonstrates to the reader the tremendous ability of the mind to control physical experience, habit patterns and emotional reactions. Although this book is fascinating, without the guidance of a live instructor it cannot really be used as a practical learning tool. Although it seems there is almost nothing Dave Elman can't handle successfully with hypnosis, the reader may be left feeling a bit inadequate, as his physician students often did, when trying to duplicate his efforts. Obviously there is a lot to be said for intuitive skill in this area.
