Q: about the frame dropping issue....this only effects the monitor playback and not the actual recording correct?

This is correct. I have not had any issue with recording to my phone or live-streaming unless my phone was under heavy load.

I'm not using it for a camera, and I don't have a 5D mark III. I'm using it to capture the screen of my iPhone and other HDMI equipment, and there's no problem.
