Firstly I was so impressed with this item last year that I bought another as a gift. They really are quite mesmerisingly beautiful and really put you in a Christmassy mood. I felt 5 years old again! In fact, to be honest, I’d rather watch this for an hour or two than all the dross masquerading as ‘entertainment’ which inevitably features on our TV screens over the festive season! You also have the assurance of knowing that because it’s made in Germany it won’t have fallen apart or stopped working by the time the festive season is over. My partner, saw mine and equally enchanted, bought a couple for his friends also. A few weeks ago I bought a couple more and went to purchase batteries to insert in each lamp before giving to the recipients in time for Christmas. Trouble is that the listing information is incorrect. Please note that the batteries required are larger than stated, i.e. 3 x C 1.5 V -which may be more expensive also. Having now opened a multi pack of AA’s I bought for the purpose, I won’t be permitted a refund from the store I purchased them, which is frustrating. Obviously either the listing info, or the product design has changed since last year. Don’t be disappointed.

Lovely addition to Christmas decorations, batteries lasted all Christmas and beyond, wry happy with purchase.

Excellent item, worth every penny

The item itself is fantastic and has been admired by everyone who has seen it. It comes already filled with the liquid but without the three batteries needed to run it. The reasons I have only given it three stars are as follows.In the included instructions it says that if the light fails it is non replaceable so rendering the item useless.I just hope it lasts a long time. Perhaps the manufacturer could remedy this fault with a replaceable bulb. The other reason it only got three stars is that there is no mains adapter for the unit. I have run the unit off and on for a week now and the batteries have drained to zero. I realized this when the unit failed to light up ( at first I thought the bulb had failed and was ready to return it to Amazon ) .If you do purchase one and after a while it fails to light up the first thing you should do is try some new batteries.The battery problem may have been at fault with the reviewer who only gave it one star. So do not leave it switched on for long periods unless you have loads of spare batteries.Having said all that it is still a very magical Christmas decoration.

Similar to a previous reviewer , I bought this as a gift based on how much the one I already own has been admired. Although it looks exactly the same and is lovely when lit I was very disappointed with the change in product design which I hadn’t expected - it now requires much more expensive batteries - costing at least an extra £5 and I’m not sure how long it will run for before they need replacing. Personally I wouldn’t want to spend that much on a regular basis to keep replacing batteries and am sure it will affect the recipient’s enjoyment of running it for long periods. I normally run mine (old design) on rechargeable batteries which last for several days making it reasonably cost effective.
