Great read
I really enjoyed reading this. The story was good fun with the right amount of creepy, the art was gorgeous and I was sad to find out that this is a standalone. Go read!

A really fresh take on witches
This was a really creepy horror story, the wytches of this title are horrific, terrifying and like to snack on children. A family have moved to the town and the teenage daughter starts hearing whispering from the woods. Fantastic artwork and essays at the back explaining the writers process, excellent!

At heart a father-daughter relationship tested by horror!
Synopsis: A horror story, but looking deeper this story is actually centered around a father-daughter relationship that is pushed to the limit by the 'wytches' who haunt their family.Although the hype around this book sells it as a very scary graphic novel, as most people who have read it agree, it's not that scary. This, however, does not stop it from being brilliant! The artwork is amazing, although I personally thought it could do with a few less layers. The story crosses between the past and the 'present' very smoothly and really aids the story. I loved that both the daughter and father characters were fully explored and given real personalities, the dad being devoted but with a past full of mistakes, made him very real with a good duality. The daughter character 'Sail' I found quite irritating, but then I guess this will lead her to have more character development (hopefully) in later issues. Also the name 'Sail' really bugged me for some reason, but that's just a personal dislike. The addition of the authors letters to the reader at the end really made this graphic novel a 5/5 for me!

The best graphic novel ever!
This book is amazing! It's not just the best graphic novel I've read in years (and I read a lot of them!), but it's one of the most enjoyable, gripping, thrilling pieces of media I've seen recently. You know when you've seen a great film or read a good book, you always want to tell people about it? Well, I buy a lot on Amazon and this is the first review I've written in a few years - it's really that good. It's (currently) £4.74... less than even a cheapo bottle of wine and will give you one hundred times the enjoyment, so trust me and buy this.Oh, and once you've read it... be careful what you wish for and stay out of the woods!

Has a lot of potential
3.5 StarsI'm a big fan of Snyder's American Vampire series, so when I discovered he was writing a new series all about witches I had to check out his take on one of my favourite supernatural creatures. The first volume of Wytches follows the Rook family - Charlie, Lucy and their daughter, Sailor - who've moved to a new town after Sailor was badly bullied by a girl who subsequently went missing. Naturally, the new town isn't quite the fresh start they expect it to be...My favourite thing about this graphic novel is definitely the relationship between Charlie and Sailor; I've got a soft spot for good father and daughter relationships, and Snyder writes banter really well. His characters sound like people. It was also great to see a lead character who struggles with anxiety the way Sailor does. It would have been nice to learn a little more about her because at times it felt as though she was defined by her anxiety, and though I know from experience how much anxiety can take over your life it doesn't make you incapable of having hobbies and interests, but a lot of the story was focused on the idea of conquering fear with the help of others and on your own, which I really appreciated. If you're looking for the kind of witches we're used to - pruned old hags or tempting sorceresses - you won't find them here. Snyder and Jock have created a whole new kind of witch, more of a whole new kind of creature than a warped version of us, but there are still certain allusions to the typical witchcraft we're used to that I thought were slotted quite nicely into the narrative. On the whole, though, these things are an entirely different form of effed up. They're pretty gross, actually, and some of the art is really quite creepy - Jock did a good job! This volume is very much an introduction. There's still a lot left unexplained and undiscovered, the whole volume felt like a prologue for an upcoming story, so I didn't love it. I do think it has a lot of potential, though, and I'll definitely be picking up the next volume, because Snyder's American Vampire series only continued to expand and improve after the first volume and I'm hoping this series will do the same.If you're into horror or you'd like to see witchcraft handled in a different way, I recommend checking this out - especially as Halloween approaches!

For lovers of great horror storytelling and beautiful artwork
A dark, horrifying and enthralling story delivered beautifully through the artwork and dialogue.I completely devoured this in one sitting, utterly captivated. Things which generate fear from various points in life are explored, from the scary monsters of childhood to the horror and worry of failing your loved ones when you get older. The twist on the concept of a "witch" is brilliant and I really loved the inclusion of some initial concept imagery at the end of the book (along with the authors commentary prose, which provides a wonderful origin story)A brilliant piece of horror fiction with vibrantly dark artwork that I highly recommend.

Chit Chit Chit
I'm not one to write reviews but Snyder's Wytches touched a nerve of some sort. After reading in one sitting (not difficult- it's only 6 volumes) I went on to read Snyder's, 'why I wrote this book' spiel. It puts the book into perspective and helps contextualise his motives for why the story goes the way it does. This is a thoughtful book, it's about family and what it's like to be a parent. It's about the stuff you should, as a parent, be scared of.The artwork is excellent. Each page seems to work as one large piece artwork that is broken down into a series of smaller frames when you look again. A bit like some of the artwork in Black Science. For seasoned horror readers it may seem a little flat (?) but I must admit that I am looking forward to reading more about Sailor and her Dad in Volume 2

A gripping and unsettling comic
Wytches is a gripping and unsettling comic series that blends horror and supernatural elements. The tangled storytelling and eerie artwork create an atmosphere of tension and unease that draws readers into its world. The exploration of primal fears and the complexities of human relationships adds depth to the narrative. The comics offer a unique and chilling reading experience that leaves a lasting impression.

Linda.
