Lovely piece of slate
I ordered this recently to display a cake I made. It was perfect! The black colour really help set off the cake. It was the perfect size and easy to clean. There was the tiniest bit of crumbling, but nothing that affected the cake or the integrity of the slate. Be sure to wash and dry it well before first use.

Bought as a 'cooling stone'/hideaway for chinchillas - Excellent for this purpose!
This is a large piece of solid slate with some little plastic feet on the underside. As with all natural slate products, it is fragile and will crumble and chip slightly at the corners - this is to be expected. This slate is thinner and less durable than roofing slate but will survive everyday use as a platter if treated with care. It will fracture and break if dropped! It cleans up well - I use a scourer, mild washing up liquid and warm (but not boiling hot) water.I am using this as natural cage decor for a pair of chinchillas. They really like lying on it and it can function as a 'cooling stone' on hot days, if placed in the fridge for a few minutes. I was initially worried that they might try to chew the edges and could ingest splinters but I've had this for a while now and they show no interest in gnawing the slate (they have plenty of wooden items in their cage). The plastic 'feet' are easy to remove.

Depends what your using it for
I bought two and glad I did as smaller than I was expecting. This was just for nibbles with wine. Have eaten out with slateboards many times where I live. I would say it’s okay for just 2 people with not too much on. There were 5 of us and I used 2 and still needed additional small bowls. I put cheese grapes apple on one and meats, pickles on another. It was all very close together and not as spaced out as I would have liked.Since reviewing this I have noticed on a tv cook program they use these as place mats not as I intended them for. If that is the case I would say perfect size for a place mat setting

Very dangerous
When this arrived I had to go back and check I had purchased a slate that said it was for use as a food slate. The listing says it is. Here is my issue with this slate:There is no way this slate is food safe in any way shape or form. Every time I handled it, substantial pieces of slate flaked off of it and I was left with black hands from the slate powdering! How exactly is that safe for food?! The flakes went every where too so I can’t even imagine the mess it would make of your kitchen, kitchen cupboards etc. You are seriously at risk or probably very likely to eat flakes of slate eating off of this. This is so dangerous!I returned it and requested a refund. I think I’m going to only purchase another from a certified food safe shop. If I could give this product minus 50 stars I would! There is no way this slate has been sealed/treated to be used as a food surface. Should not be for sale

Contrast cheese nicely.
Ordered the minimum of two slates. They arrived in box each wrapped in a couple of layers of bubble wrap and cardboard over each of the corners. As I removed the wrapping fine black dust and chippings fell out. This should have set alarm bells ringing in my head as to their fragility. Before use I washed the boards down to remove any remaining slate particles. But due to my clumsiness I managed to knock a little bit off one of them, d'oh!However, the black slate set the cheeses off nicely and were easy to use and clean afterwards.

Nice board rubbish packaging to post
Lovely board looks great and wipes clean fine only issue is packaging. All four corners were broken when it arrived as they aren’t packed very safely to be posted but as all 4 are broken it kind of matches and looks alright for what I need it for
