walked in the house and forgot I still had these on ...
I tend to wear out shoes fast, usually wearing thru the sole in 3 months. I looked into Xero Shoes when my chiropractor recommended I use them. Seeing they have a 5,000 mile sole I decided it was worth a try.Sizing - I normally wear a wide 13 (4E 13 is a perfect fit for me). As Xero shoes advertises their toe box as being wide I went with my usual size 13 in the "Sunset" model - it was too small to even get my foot in. As the size 14 was out I decided to try the Mesa 2 in a size 14 instead. The toe box is perfect, though the length is longer than expected. Had I known this I would have tried a 13 again - their sizing from model to model appears to be non uniform. My wife has also discovered this when moving from one model to another in Xero shoes - the sizing is not consistent.Comfort - I had never worn barefoot style shoes before, it took a few days to get used to the new style (no heel, thin sole) but I quickly adapted and soon noticed these were the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. On the second day I walked into our house and forgot to take them off ... we ALWAYS remove our shoes when coming in the house, but these felt like I was not wearing any shoes at all.Durability - I have now been wearing them daily for 2 months - at this point I am used to my shoes showing a lot of sign of wear (4 months is a long time for my usual shoes to last) - I have worn them for everything, except for Church when I wear dress shoes - hiking, walking on pavement, yard work, etc. I have walked (according to my phone count) 178 miles since getting them, so no where near what they are rated at and they are showing very minimal signs of wear - one singe lug has worn down 1/8 of it's thickness, the rest still look near new. If these continue to hold up the way they appear to be starting, they will more than pay for themselves over the next year.Weight - These are INCREDIBLY LIGHT. the pair is much lighter than a single shoe of my old tennis shoes.Dry Time - I did one hike in calf deep water and it took 2 days for these to dry - I did expect them to dry faster, but as the weather was cool, this was not bad.Insole - The insole would not stay put in the shoe, so I removed it the first day.Sole - for the most part, walking on dirt roads, pavement, and large rocks is very comfortable. However, sharp rocks (think 2" chunks of gravel type rock) can hurt a bit if landing hard on them, especially in the heel area. This has only happened a handful of times and I am getting used to looking before stepping down on a surface.Traction - incredible traction on nearly all surfaces I have walked - smooth rock, asphalt, concrete, gravel, mud. The only time I have found them worse than other shoes is on greasy slick tiles. I noticed this at a restaurant, no one else was having trouble with the floor, but these shoes were like walking on wet ice - just sliding across the floor. I am surprised as they have outperformed any of my hiking boots and tennis shoe soles on just about every other type of surface.Overall - I will be buying these again, though I would like to try one size smaller to see if they are a better fit. If sizing on Xero Shoes were consistent between models I would have given them a 5 star rating.

Barefoot shoes takes some getting used to
This is the first pair of barefoot shoes my husband has had and therefore has taken some getting used too. The shoe itself seems well built and is comfortable. What we both are having a hard time getting over is the look. This is 100% a look thing, and nothing against the shoe. He's worn them around the house, out and about running errands and so far has no complaints. The are so light he has commented that he forgets he's wearing them! For a first time barefoot shoe wearer, he's liking them and would recommend the shoe. For us, it's simply getting used to the look of not seeing a thick bulky sole.

Shoes
Very comfortable and perfect to size. I'm 9 1/2 and they fit perfect. Not sure why some folks are suggesting to buy a size higher!

Good trail running experience
I started with my first pair of Xeros and their Speed Force shoe in size 9.5. With the Mesa a size 9 works for me.When I got the Speed Forces I was mainly road running with the longest run being 10 miles - I really like the shoes. But I found myself trail running more and more and doing so in the Speed Forces led to quite a few heel bruises and looking down too much at the trail for things that would hurt to step on.So, I need a little more protection and got the Mesa. I did my first trail run with them yesterday - 9 miles on a fairly rocky trail. The did exactly what I need for them to do in terms of additional foot protection. While they are certainly a minimalist shoe it is a little more protection that I wanted but I will keep them. It is nice to be able to look up a little bit more since I don't have to analyze every single foot landing spot like I did with the Speed Forces.

Amazing shoes!
These shoes are so comfortable! They have great traction for outdoor workouts, hikes, bike rides, and comfortable for around the house and casual use. My feet, knees and legs feel really good after wearing them. I tried several Xero shoes on Amazon and liked these the best for wide toe box area and fit.

Left sole insert does not stay in place
The left sole insert creeps out of place with normal walking. My toes are on the bottom sole as the insert is on my heel. I did not have this problem with the first version of the shoe.

Like the HFS but beefed up
These shoes have a very similar upper to the HFS and are similarly sized and shaped. Both are really comfortable out of the box.The Mesa trail has some more rubber type material to provide more structure to the shoe. But it still retains a lot of the HFS comfort. The sole is also noticeably stiffer with better grip which is what I wanted for hiking and disc golf. The sole still provides a nice balance of good ground feedback without leaving your feet too exposed to rocks and roots.I have not had an issue with the insoles shifting around but I don’t run in these I generally walk, hike and play disc golf in them. They’re great for all three.Sizing, I generally wear an 8.5 in Vans and other true to size brands. But I found that I am a size 9 across most Xero shoe models including this one.One thing I can’t speak to for xero shoes in general is their durability. All of my pairs are a few months old at most right now. I typically get 6 months out of a pair of trail runners at this price point so if these last that long I’ll be satisfied.
