Personal favorite from Agatha Christie
I have been reading a lot of Agatha Christie books recently including the most famous ones like Murder on the Orient Express, And Then There Were None, and the Murder of Roger Ackroyd, however I find this one my absolutely favorite among all her books.I think of this book more of a love story than a mystery. Every choice each character made was based on his or her personality and the emotion they felt. All the actions they did felt very reasonable when you know them well. I felt like among all the Agatha books I read, the motive in this one makes most sense to me, it makes you feel you could understand, that you might have done it when you are put in the same position. And all those was because in this book it spent a lot of time building the characters that you understand each of them very well.I understand that this book may not be that attractive to many hardcore mystery fans who enjoy guessing the murderer before it comes to an end. However to me it’s a most satisfying read since the discussion on humanity and the nature of love in this book is astonishing. It’s just so interesting to see that all the participant in the same event view this whole thing so differently because their own special point of view. Also it is very interesting to see all those people’s comment on the charatertistics of the deceased couple. Caroline, the woman who was accused of poison her husband especially fascinated me, she is such a simple woman for her devote to love and at the same time such a complex human being full of dignity, kindness, remorse and self-control. All the female characters are vivid and powerful, while the male characters are not so well developed.First time after reading a Agatha novel I felt sad, for most if not all the main characters in the book. Everyone made their choice but really no one is a winner in this particular event. At least I felt that the two deceased person had some level of peace before they die.

Agatha does it again! Fun mystery!
There is this thing about a mystery: all the clues the detective uses to solve the crime must be there for the reader to see. No fair for some bit of vital data to fall out of nowhere at the last minute.Agatha Christy has a real talent for writing that kind of story. Poirot and the reader share all the same information. I should have see the ending and the reasoning, and almost did.As Poirot was explaining his thinking at the end, I was thinking "hey! I was right!" and then the sudden left turn. I missed two or three vital points, and he solved it.You'll have to read it for yourself!

brilliant
I first read this book when I was a child. The characters, some of whom were casually cruel have remained vivid in my mind. Agatha Christie was such an acute observer of behavior. I think perhaps that is why she is widely read as time passes. The styles, houses and landscapes change, but human nature is consistent. Is it interesting to read something so vivid from my childhood with an adults experience. My perspective is somewhat different but Ms. Christies writing stands the test of time.In this novel Poirot conducts an investigation of a murder so long in the past that there is no physical evidence existent. Even the estate has been reworked, some of the structures no longer exist. He has been asked by the daughter of a woman convicted of murder to find out what really happened. The young woman has received a letter from her mother now deceased stating her innocence. She wishes to know the truth before she marries. Poirot agrees to reconstruct the crime from the memories of those who were there. To succeed he must weed through the lies, misperceptions and memory lapses of the witnesses. The people in question although members of the British upper class were living in an unconventional way as the young women's father, a famous painter was working on a portrait of his young mistress in the house he shared with his wife and family. Understandably, tensions ran high and a dead body was the result. As I work my way back through the "golden age" mysteries I am amazed at how well many of these writers wrote. There are elements of prejudice and intolerance in some of these works that are intolerable now but the plots the wit and the puzzles endure.

Too lengthy, but unexpected twist in the end
I felt this novel very lengthy, because it re iterates same details again and again. It could have been more crispier. But I think that's the knock with most of the Agatha Christie novels. However, the end is pleasant as usual, and makes the book worth reading

Excellent
Many years ago, I read this novel in a Spanish translation. Now it is a pleasure to read Agatha Christie's clear, beautiful English of the original version. Highly recommended.
