Murder Mystery Party Case Files

This product is absolutely brilliant. I wanted to buy those “unsolved case files”, but was to cheap to fork out for them, so I hoped this would be similar. It was actually hard to solve and we had to use lots of the clues! Took us a couple of hours, money well spent!

The goal was to list the suspects and add 1) motive, 2) means, and 3) opportunity. If I had all three then I would find the killer. And so I read about this Napa Valley wine maker, his brother, his business partner, his secretary, his wife, his foreman and one of his friends. One of them had taken his life and tried to cover it up.To be honest, I had only read the Missing Person File and I already had my eyes set on one of the suspects. So when I read the Murder Investigation File I tried to keep this in mind and see if there were other things that fit and they did. Overall I didn’t find it so difficult to find the identity of the killer, and of the 6 possibilities 3 people fell off my list quite soon already. When you only hear once from them in a witness statement and the others don’t speak of them either, how are they supposed to be real suspects then?I did find the motive was kept very simple and I did miss some extra drama and intrigue between the different characters, like mistresses who had affairs with different men and then tension and jealousy between them… I didn’t feel much ’emotion’ coming off any of the characters and it’s all quite straight-lined, there are no complications. I know, I read too many stories, right?All in all I enjoyed this but I missed some extra game play, you’re done when you’ve read everything (I did take notes too so that I saw the important points in the statements) and you decide on a name. All you have to do then is check the solution on a private site (and there are a few clues too to get there if you need them), where they confirmed my suspicion, my suspect was in fact GUILTY. They also list all the clues (5 or 6) for you to have come to that conclusion.

I love mystery games, especially solo ones that I can take my time with and when I saw this at a steal of a price I had to grab it. It has lots of print outs and pieces to explore and it took me a fair few weeks to figure it out. Will purchase any other's that pop up!

Item was bought as a birthday present. Went down really well. Item was great fun and made you feel like a real life detective. Highly recommend!

A good entry to these sorts of games, and cheaper than other offerings on the market that I've seen. One drawback is the solution and hints require you to visit the companies website, which means if anything happens to that website, you can't get any help or check your solution. All the components necessary to play the game really should be in the box. Other than a pretty good example of what to expect from these games.Once you've completed it you can pack it back in the box, which is a really nice sturdy case file style box and pass it to a friend.

First off this was the cheapest option, and having never tried something like this before I thought why not try it. It took me and one friend 2 and a half hours to complete (that is including a couple of drinks breaks and a couple of other distractions) the detail in the package is amazing, really gets your mind working without giving too much away. The online ‘hints’ were pretty obvious if you’ve managed to work the case properly but can see they’d be quite helpful if you got a bit stuck. Overall a great way to spend the evening, I think if there was more than 2 of you it might get solved a bit faster but either way we had a great night and will definitely be trying more things like this!

The presentation of this game is great. All the evidence (and there’s a lot of it) is well presented and looks authentic. However, it’s not all that difficult and having spent so much time looking through and reading all the evidence only a handful are actually relevant and easy enough to get you to the solution. The online hints are also pretty pointless, more cryptic clues than being of any help.
