Over the years, I've had numerous leaks in my kitchen, and the result is always the same- the chipboard plinth under the units soaks up water like a sponge, and swells up. But not anymore, hopefully! This time after replacing the damaged plinth sections, I treated the cut edges with this product.It's quite viscous, and looks for all intents & purposes like a general purpose varnish. It goes on easily with a brush, and appears to soak into the cut edges quickly. The first coat dries in a couple of hours, but the second coat takes a bit longer. I found that it was best to wipe away any product which got onto the decorative laminate surface quickly with kitchen towel moistened with acetone. For cleaning the brush, I found that cellulose thinners followed by water & detergent did the trick.On some of the exposed cut edges, I applied some iron-on decorative edging, and I found that this adhered to the treated edges perfectly. Fortunately, I havn't had any leaks since I re-did the plinth! But if this does happen, I'll report back as to how well the product protected the wood...Update: I had a leak from my boiler the other day, and I'm pleased to say that the sealer prevented the water from penetrating into the chipboard perfectly! So, there was no swelling of the board. Top marks to this product!

Works really well easy to apply. Needed it to keep joints on surface board in kitchen from becoming damp. So far not needed to reapply

Struggling to see the difference between this product and clear polyurethane varnish. Same colour, same smell, same properties when applied, same drying time and incidentally, flammable, just like varnish as opposed to silicone, which isn't flammable?

Easy to use ... in the fresh air if you're sensitive to fumes ... be prepared to dispose of brush afterwards. Arrived quickly .... appears to do the job. Didn't dry too well at first but it may have been cos I left the worktop out in my workshop gazebo overnight (quite cold). Dried fully when I brought worktop inside. Used again on another warmer day outside and it dried more quickly. Very happy with this product. FF was the only place I could find this specialist product.

Two coats of this appears effective at sealing up the Weetabix sponge that are cut chipboard edges. Only time will reveal how good it really is, but it must be better than nothing and seems a good insurance policy against that nasty board swelling.
