Ruk SportV Hull Kayak Trolley

I was surprised just how well made this item was. Seeing the weight limit on it (40 kg), I didn't expect it to be as well made as it is. The axle is machined from a solid bar and the overall construction appears robust. the only change I have made is to attach some pieces of foam to the wheel retaining pins, as they are small and difficult to see when dropped and otherwise would sink.It packs down easily and fits through both the front and rear hatches on my kayak.Great bit of kit for moving a sea kayak packed for a day trip.

Easy to move a sea kayak even in soft sand because the weight distribution is much better, easy to fit and store, but the material is brittle and therefore don't run kayaks off curbs etc. with a bang, because the carrying cradle cracked at the axle and one of the uprights broke. I will buy it again, but will treat with a bit more care.

I'm in two minds about this trolley. I love it because it's small and easy to put in the hatch. I'm very happy to push the kayak down to the beach and it works even on not so smooth ground and on the beach. Sometimes the trolley moves a bit and needs to be readjusted. I was pretty annoyed though when I lost one of the pins, and therefore a wheel on my 3rd trip. A few replacement pins in the pack would be good. I managed to order some more from RUK Sport directly. I have never used a different trolley, so I couldn't say if others are better.

I tried to give this a chance but it has let me down too much and will end up in the bin. For a start it won't stay still when you are trying to attach it. The wheels keep rolling out from under the kayak. The V shape only fits a very specific type of hull. A single webbing strap is provided but the holes you have to put it through are small and round? What's that all about??It will not work if you are pulling the kayak behind you so I tried it the other way where I am pushing the kayak which would push the wheels towards the centre of the boat. Nope it doesn't work in that direction either. The wheels are too narrow and dig into most surfaces other than concrete. The only saving grace is that you can fit this trolley into your hatch which means you don't have to throw it overboard into the sea but instead take it home to put into the nearest bin. An utter waste of money! I'd avoid buying one at all costs.

I have been using this trolley for portaging my Canadian around locks on my canal paddles.It's light, compact and slips on and off the canoe in about ten seconds. As it is used three or four times in a paddle session I leave the wheels on, stowing it behind the stern thwart.(A spare pair of retaining pins would be useful as a back up would be my only criticism).A really good product, well made and good value.

Although I didn't purchase it from Amazon I feel compelled to write a review of it because I was amazed at how appallingly made it is. The photos show how it was received, before use!Most alarmingly the black plastic frame had a massive crack where the axle runs through. I would imagine, given the fragility of the plastic and the design (these are flat plastic parts but curved and held in place by rivets, I would not expect this poor design to have much longevity whatsoever.Furthermore the trolley has plastic washers on the I side of the wheels, which would be easily lost. I anticipated that the pin clips would easily be lost too, but why design it so that other parts will be easily lost too?Mine also had unfinished plastic or glue on one of the wheels too (see photo), further demonstrating it's appalling quality.Perhaps given decent manufacturing and materials it may be a useful item, but I never got to use it. Just awful.

I bought one of these for use with a sea kayak - absolutely useless. For starters - it will only fit on the very end of the kayak - which means you still have to carry a heck of a lot of kayak yourself. Secondly - as the front and back of a sea kayak are both slippery and pointy the straps work themselves off almost immediately. If you're thinking about pushing it down a beach, choose one with the consistency of concrete because those thin little wheels dig right in.Total waste of money.
