Essential Gear
I shoot DSLR features, documentaries and music videos. I sneered at the producer who first suggested I use this mic. But I was wrong. When the wireless lavaliers went down and we pulled out a Pro 70 so we could carry on -- I wasn't expecting the quality of sound that we got. Since that day, I've decided to carry Pro 70s on every shoot. For the price it's an exceptional microphone - very good mid tones and a nice bottom end are excellent for dialogue. The fact that it is 'wired' has never given me any trouble in scenes where the actors are seated or relatively static. I've used it out on golf courses in high winds, in restaurants with heavy background noise, in fast-moving vehicles, on interiors with nasty hums and on ambient rich exteriors. The results are always good -- you just have to be aware that the actor is going to forget he/she is "wired". I'm now at the point of only using expensive wireless lavs when I really have to -- and when I do I always feel I'm at risk of an ADR session in post. My first choice is now the Pro 70. Moral. Listen to your producer. Carry a Pro 70.

Great for high noise environments
This is an excellent bit of kit if you live in a high noise area.I live between a motorway and a main road and trying to record in a semi sound proofed studio was difficult. With this hooked up to a gate / limiter, I can remove nearly all background sound.I have a number of attempts with different mics including a Rode NTG2 shotgun mic, but this gave the best results for video production.

The quality of the mic is great and works really well with my H4n
The quality of the mic is great and works really well with my H4n. Slightly base heavy but that's easy to adjust. Instructions need some attention by Audio-Technica to explain the 1 control it has.

Only thing that could be better is mic lead is permanent fixed to the box
Only thing that could be better is mic lead is permanent fixed to the box. Can imagine with a lot of use this getting mashed then would need a repair or replace whole lot. Otherwise excellent.

Quality Sound
I use this microphone on a Gypsy Jazz Guitar and it reproduces the sound quite accurately with an acousic amp.Highly Recommended.

Quality product that just didn't work for my nylon string guitar.
I tried to use this with my nylon string guitar. I have enough trouble with boominess using a Rode M3 mic directed at the 12th fret. I thought this might be better but it was worse. I really had to use a lot of EQ to cut out the boom. I think its because this sits right in the sound hole. I have seen this mic work for other people (guitarnick.com) but it just didn't work for my setup. The product is of high quality and come in a nice padded case. There is a little clip on the guitar clip which is made from plastic. It looks to me to be flimsy but is secured on with a screw so I hope its replaceable.

Excellent Mic
This the ideal mic for recording dialogue when your working without a boom operator. Low noise and good dinamodrake range this is now my go to mic when I shooting an interview.

Don't buy through Amazon
I've used these mics for years, and they're usually spot on, but this one is faulty - the signal breaks up and crackles horribly when I play with any force.I tried to contact the seller, but it's silence all the way. Amazon give you 30 days to return, which is ridiculous for a product like this. I didn't get the chance to try it on a gig within 30 days of purchasing, and when I did, it was apparently too late to return it.Please buy elsewhere in case you get a faulty one. You can find up to 3 year warrantees if you avoid Amazon.Gutted.
