2022 Explorer ST easy install and no drilling

These hood lift support work as intended when installed according to the instructions and with the parts supplied. That's the most important and what counts. Opportunities for improvement: 1. The holes in the L plates are too big for the ball studs and nuts provided. 2. The washers are too big: the inner hole is the same size as the oversized hole in the L plate, making the washer useless. The outer diameter is also too big. Most of the washer is not in contact with the contoured shape of the hood where ball studs are attached. 3. The nuts that go inside the hood seem flimsy and made of aluminum. They are taped too strongly to the metal strip. It's a good idea to undo some of the tape to make it easier to pull off the strip after installation. 4. It's questionable how the bolts and nuts will handle vibration long term. They may get loose with time. Perhaps it's worth considering different washers, lock washers and thread locker. 5. The rectangular shape of the L plates has a crude appearance and screams home made! Of course it's hidden under the hood and out of sight and still making it at least more rounded could be more aesthetically pleasing. 6. The installation instructions could benefit from adding clear closeup photos.

Although I own a 2022 Explorer Timberline the installation was not easy. If you have a 2022 Explorer it may not be as difficult however because my Explorer is as mentioned a Timberline it required some retrofit in order for the Hood Lift Supports to work. After the retrofit it does operate well and I am pleased at the outcome. However my complaint is that the bolt bracket holes are twice as large as they should be and will require different washers then the ones that come with the kit because the washers included in the kit the bolt holes are way to big as well. Secondly I felt that the nuts attached to each end of the wire rod that goes up into the hood used to secure the hood ball joint is very thin and week and felt that eventually will come loose. To avoid this I recommend using Threadlock to hopefully to keep this from happening. In other words for the price I would have expected that the manufacturer should pay more attention to detail that does not require a trip to the hardware store.

I installed this on my 2020 Ford Explorer ST. Works as advertised. Instructions is easy and doesn't require expert installation. This is the first time I've installed anything like this. I like that it lifts by itself with a little push once open. I highly recommend this product.
