Good for basic info, but thats all
Book needs more detail and pictures about each trail centre and the routes at each. Good to find out a trail centres you didn't know were there, and a quick guide about them, but should have more detail.

The One to Have
It seems that every mountain bike magazine and every mountain biker and every mountain bike website talk non stop about trail centres. And yes so do I, I have ridden a few of the popular ones, Dalby, Coed y Brenin, 7 Stanes, so being a fan of Vertebrate Publishing guidebooks I thought this book was worth £18.My expectations have been surpassed. Firstly I found myself nodding with agreement with the authors insights into the trails I had ridden, which gave me confidence to take Tom Fenton's advice and recommendations to the surprising number of trails I had not ridden. The book lists many many centres I had not known about and expertly sorts the real black runs - Mabie, from some of the so called black runs, something that the various websites out there don't really treat objectively as the strong editorial control of this title achieves. The photography is outstanding and accomplishes something no other mountain biking title of this ilk has done, it draws together the countries best MTB photographers, Wig Worland, Dan Burham and Seb Rogers to name but a few, and doesn't rely on the authors own `snaps' like so many comparable books do. The photos give a comprehensive sense of the type of riding and what to expect at each centre.Having used the book over the winter, (taking advantage of my company's in ability to find me work to do) I've found it an invaluable and complete source of information concerning all the trails in the UK.My only criticism of the book is its sell by date, I feel within three years it may be out of date, but its accompanying website goes someway to keeping us all informed on new trails and new centres. There are a host of websites out there talking about trail centres, but for me this is the only product to do them all justice. An absolute bargain at the price - detailed info on thousands of kilometres of trails.

From there its a case of off you go and experience the ride.

Excellent and informative, but very XC-oriented
An excellent book, and fantastic inspiration for planning weekends riding around the UK. Be aware that it's very XC-oriented, and while it mentions DH, freeride, and other types of riding, they're not what the author concentrated on.Having said that, you get a very good idea of what is there to ride, so it would suit anyone looking for XC rides, all-mountain, enduro style, or similar.
