Water has always tasted bitter to me and I have a hard time drinking it. But between my Brita filter in the fridge & the filter in this bottle water tastes like nothing! I went from drinking water once in a blue moon to drinking like 2-5 bottles a day.

I have mixed feelings about this water bottle. I've never liked the way our tap water tastes and preferred the taste of purified bottled water. I've always wanted a re-usable bottle like this, and saw this one filtered, so I thought it might be perfect for me. The instuctions were quite involved and there is a surprising amount of complexity involved with setting it up and cleaning the items. The lid is not easy to clean and there are a lot of crevices that are not easy to clean by hand (we do not have a dishwasher). After washing it the best that I could, I filled it up with tap water and had some trouble figuring out why I couldn't get the water to come out correctly and it kept making odd venting noises. Turns out you need to use the spout as a straw, instead of trying to tilt it upside down and drinking from it like a regular cup/bottle. After I figured that out, it worked pretty well. However, I kept noticing that it had a funny taste to it. I thought maybe I didn't clean it well enough, so I washed it again and refilled it, and still kept noticing a funny taste/smell. We have potable city water at our home, not well water, so again I assumed it was the bottle. I drank a few more bottles of it and it never went away. I eventually refilled it with filtered and purifier water, and it tasted better. As such, I have concluded that the filter in this doesn't do a great job of reducing any tastes/smells from tap water, and I would be just as well off without a filter in the bottle. Also, the filters are currently unavailable from Amazon or Contigo, and I assume they are going to be fairly expensive if/when they are ever available. Lastly, I'm not a fan of the "Auto-Spout" as it likes to splash water in my face when I press the button and the spout comes out. This is still a decent bottle, just don't expect the filter to do much. I've found that filtering the water with a Brita pitcher first, then pouring that into the bottle instead of using tap water tastes much better.Update 1-17-23:I have been using this daily since my review, and I've grown to live with the flawed "auto spout" that splashes me in the face. I try to open it away from my face so it doesn't splash into my eyes and startle me as much. I've also found that even though I feel like the filter could still do a better job, if the water is colder first, it tastes better to me, so it may not entirely be the filter's fault. I notice the tap water's somewhat odd taste if the water gets closer to room temperature but when cold it tastes fine when using the filter, better than straight from the tap. Raised from 3 to 4 stars.

This was fantastic for our vacation and air flight. Good tasting water wherever you do. Highly recommend !

The cap, straw and button broke after 2 hours of use. I was pushing the button to drink and the mouthpiece broke off into 4 pieces. I was excited to try the filter bottle but not even one day was brutal.

This water bottle makes it super easy to have fresh, clean, crisp tasting water wherever you may go. Whether on a long trip, going out to do some jogging, or just anywhere in general, this will be a perfect bottle to take with you. The bottle includes two filters (one in the bottle, and an additional one in a small box) that you can easily install into the inner straw mechanism of the bottle where it will filter your water as you drink it through the spout. The instructions do tell you to soak the filter for 10 minutes before you use it, which was a little annoying as the filter floats so I had to hold it underwater myself.Once the process of setting it up was complete, just add some water and that's it. The water will automatically get filtered as you are drinking it, and it does an excellent job at giving it that crisp clean taste that you would expect from other water purifiers. The packaging also states that with an average of 50-60 oz of water being consumed per day should give each filter 2-3 months of use before replacing it, and since it comes with two, that gives you roughly 6 months of use depending on how much you use it.The lid is also one of my favorite parts as the autospout button makes it super easy to pop out the spout when you need a drink, and it also has a locking tab next to it to prevent the button being pushed if you have it in a bag, purse, or some other place where you don't want it to open on accident.Overall, while there is more I could say, I will simply state that this is just an all around excellent water bottle for those that care about having the best quality water whenever they need it. I highly recommend it.

I have been using Contigo bottles for years. They make some of the best water bottles you can buy, and they are less likely to leak than most brands. Since I have a reverse-osmosis filter at home, I usually have access to purified water. But sometimes when I'm traveling or I go to my office, I don't have bottled water or other purified water with me. This is when I will use this bottle. It's not as effective as a reverse-osmosis filter, but it will still remove most of the contaminants that make water taste bad. It's similar to a Brita filter for those who use one of those at home. The only negative is that you have to change the filters occasionally. But since I will only use mine once in a while, I shouldn't have to worry about that for a long time.
