Does the job!
Cannot complain for the price in comparison to similar items! Brought for my partner and he was very happy as it protected him from being burnt whilst welding! Fit comfortably and surpsingly light weight considering the amount of protection it offers. You can see some stitching on the outer layer of the jacket but it doesn't effect the quality in the slightest, just a bit unsightly for perfectionists! And to be honest, it's used for people to weld whilst wearing so it isn't intended to be in pristine condition for special occasions!

Good for general workshop jobs, but not to be worn when welding. No matter how small the weld...
Well to start with a positive, the fit is sensible, I usually take a medium, and so ordered a medium and it was perfect. It's a nice cool jacket to replace full overalls in summer, which is the reason I bought it. Unfortunately after spending about 8-10 hours doing some light MIG welding, I ended up with burns down my arm, both from UV which this claims to protect against (in fairness, it is noticeably more subtle UV burn with the jacket on, but it's there nonetheless), and was constantly burning my arm from light splatter that easily manages to burn through. To make matters worse, the sleeve holes are larger than is really necessary, and do not have any poppers to close them up, so that just forms a tunnel fro weld splatter if you wear standard workshop gloves instead of full gauntlets to protect your arms.If I was just doing generally workshop jobs, with the exception of welding, I would Highly recommend this based on what I have experienced so far, it's light, comfy, has a brass zip and poppers to close the front, and seems to be somewhat durable to wear and tear for the price. Unfortunately it makes claims as welding wear, and offering as little UV protection as it does, and effectively forming a net to catch splatter long enough for it to burn through, it only makes a slight difference to welding with a short sleeved shirt... Less UV burns, just as much splatter burning the top of your arms, and excessively sized sleeve ends to help funnel splatter to burn your arm from underneath. I will be using it untill it completely goes up in smoke, but once that happens I will not be coming back to portwest for welding gear: lightweight or otherwise.I expected a little more of portwest, seeing as my work-supplied overalls are portwest too, and have actually provided adiquate protection while welding; contact burns, splatter AND UV burns.

Well made, but odd sizing
A well-made jacket in a nice thick cotton material, with quality fittings. Sadly, the sizing is rather odd. The jacket is a little short but the sleeves are rather long. The sloping pockets are also rather strange and less deep than expected, and the flaps are sewn closed at either end so you cannot fully "open" the pockets. A pity, because apart from these flaws it's a nice product.

As you would expect
Does exactly as you would expect of a flame resistant jacket, i.e, I've not burst into flames whilst welding and grinding with it on. The fit is slightly generous which is no bad thing as it allows you to get into a good position to do the job without it pulling at you and restricting movement.I'd recommend this jacket to anyone looking for a reasonably priced fit for purpose bit of kit.
