Nichiren Shu Service: Gongyo with Additional Prayers

Ryusho Jeffus has done the world a Great Favor by composing this user-friendly book!He interjects his own gentle personality every-so-often, making the whole of it feel accessible...like hearing from an old friend.Gongyo, the chanting of certain sections of the Lotus Sutra, can be a daunting pursuit. This book makes it much easier just by the formating.But what makes this book an absolute Go To, is that Ryusho Jeffus enerously includes an English versions, formatted for chanting.The preparatory prayers really help to focus our sttention on the magnificenc, and dare I say holiness, of the Lotus Sutra - supporting an attitude of grateful worship.The proffered ending, silent prayers are incredibly helpful examples of the proper structure and content for maintaining our gratitude - especially when requests are being made based on any merits gained by our recitation.I cannot recommend this excellent book highly enough!

Reverend Jeffus gives the basic service with some added prayers at the end. It is easy to use. Very well done.

What is this? Nichiren Shu? They are very nice people who don’t take sides in the sectarian warfare. They don’t preach but rather learn from the Lotus Sutra and Nichiren’s writings together with beginners. It would be very difficult to learn Gongyo from this book. The silent prayers feel like wish lists. This is a long way from Nichiren Shoshu.

Ryusho Jeffus has added meaningful touches to the Nichiren Shu liturgy, including transliteration of terms Buddhists should become familiar with. He also adds the prayer of St. Francis, which is in keeping with the principle of practice in accord with the local culture. A wonderful addition to the Buddhist liturgy,

Great reading for anyone interested in Nichiren Buddhism. It gives you a sense of humanity and looking out for one another!

Nice book for personal development.I wish they have a simple prayer section for beginners. But it is good overall.

This Nichiren Shu service book is easy to read and use in my daily Buddhist practice.

Great book makes service easier

I like this book, it has all the important parts. The additional prayers are nicely put.Very good to have a first guidance for the liturgy and not as complex as the "Darma" book.Would be helpfull to ad some instructions for using the bell.Also I have to say, that some printing mistakes occured in the sino-japanese parts of Hoben and Jigage chapters.If you are familiar with those, you will notice.Also the layout could be better in those parts like "one line, one sentence".Anyway: Thanks for putting this up! Its the only liturgy book available quickly at present.
