Messenger [ENHANCED CD] by Edwin McCain (1999-06-15)

Another great album from the highly under rated singer song writer, a great addition to my collection, will continue to buy his music.

I bought this on the strength of the US single - I Could Not Ask For More - and it became one of my albums of 1999. Imagine overtones of Hootie plus Vertical Horizon with the lyrical sensitivity of James Taylor and you're not far off. Stand out tracks are the haunting "Promise Of You" and the very BIG "Go Be Young" whilst "Wish In This World" and "Anything Good About Me" have bigger hooks than an anglers fishing basket!! His talented band play the tracks without falling into the trap of "overplaying" and Edwin's voice is superb throughout. All in all a gem for those who like great songs with melody and crunch!!!

I couldn't ask for more .. My son & my song .. Heard this song every day when he would awaken for his feedings, driving in the car - seemed to be everywhere. As an adoptive mom .. I couldn't ask for more! He is in my life and that song puts into words how much I wanted my son, and how I AM Blessed w/him and I couldn't ask for more cause I've got him and that is ALL I need!

This was the first Edwin McCain CD I ever purchased and I just fell in love with his music. It's ballad type soul just speaks to me and his songs can touch your heart no matter what you like to listen to. My all time favorite song is in this album, "I'll Be" along with "I Could Not Ask for More". Both of those songs are some of the best love songs ever written. (but then I did say that I love his work)

最近のアメリカ音楽（表現古い？）は、グランジ以降どうも好きになれないでいたのですが、ライフハウスなんかが脚光を浴び、少しずつアメリカンロックの復興を感じていました。そして、ボスがライジングで復活するといよいよアメリカンロックが立ち上がってきたと感じていた時に、ふと目に止まったこのアルバム。１曲視聴してすぐに購入を決めました。古きよきアメリカのフォークサウンドにのせて、流れてくるフォークロック！小気味よいサックスの音色。また一人私の心を揺さぶるミュージシャンの登場です。最近ジャケ買いや雑誌の評価に踊らされて、「あれ？なんか違うゾ。」と思うアルバムばかり購入していましたが、心から癒され、アメリカの片田舎のフリーウェイをドライブしてみたいと感じさせる音楽です。（特にM-6がお気に入りです。）春風の中　愛車の窓を少し開けて聞いてみたい、冬が苦手のオジさんでした。

I was very impressed with the CD. I was only familiar with a couple of Edwin's songs but really enjoyed them all. The songs are more laid back and relaxing but the lyrics have a lot of meaning and depth to them. I would definitely recommend the CD.
