Q: How can you tell this is the problem with your rack?

If you have no control of your steering and your steering wheel has a lot of play in it where you can almost turn it 360 degrees then most likely this drive belt broke. The only sure way to tell is to take the drive mechanism on the rack apart very carefully and look at the belt. You’ll need long needle nose pliers to take the belt out and put new one in. Theses belts are only in vehicles that have Driver Assist in the rack and pinion.
