The Royal - TV Drama
I have been looking for this on dvd for ages was so happy that it has finally been realsed on dvd. I was compleatly gutted when ITV said that they werent going to run the show again. I looked forward to watching it on tv on sunday nights. I looked forward to seeing what would happen in each episode. Each episode would have me griped to the tv screen for the whole hour there was never a dull moment in The Royal. I loved the storylines between Dr Ormerod and Dr Weatherill my fav characters of the whole show. Then you had lizzie (would always come out with something funny), Ken (was always up to something), Matron (kept the running of the hospital smooth with help from the nurses. She was stern but understanding), Dr Rose(never seen without his pipe - even in the operating room), Mr Middleditch (kind and understanding founder of the hospital was founded by his grandfather)plus you had all the other doctors and nurses in the hospital that made the program. The dvd came within 3 days of me making the order. It came wrapped up and I have had no problems with the quality of the dvd. Watched the 1st series within 2 days didnt want it to end. It was nice to re watched a fantastic drama that was nice for a family to enjoy. I look forward to the rest of the series to be relesed on dvd soon. Would definetly recommend this program to anyone who likes hospital dramas.

THE ROYAL
After many years now that the Series has finished on ITV1 please be aware that some of the songs featured on the DVD's due to copyright reasons have been replaced. For Example :In the original TV aired edition Ep 01.01 opening scene when David Cheriton receives his instructions from Gina the first song to play is "Delta Lady" by Joe Cocker as he leaves Aidensfield and travels to Elsinby. In the same scene on the DVD it is "I'm Telling You Now" by Freddie & The Dreamers. When the Farmer's Wife has given birth and is being passed her new baby the original song was "Baby Love" by Diana Ross and The Supremes. On the DVD its "Sugar Baby Love" by The Rubettes from 1974.This may of course distract loyal viewers who have fond memories of this programme for certain scenes where certain songs accompanied them.December 2012 : ITV currently have no plans to release any future Episode of THE ROYAL onto DVD so if like me you are a Fan of the show consider yourself screwed again by ITV !!!

Series 1.
Really well written and acted, evoking the 1960's beautifully. The only downside is only the first and second series are available on dvd, despite 8 series being aired on television - WHY?????.

The Royal
To my knowledge The Royal wasn't shown on any of our main channels in Australia. It is now being shown on one of the new digital channels, but we missed the first series, came in about middle of series 2.Decided to check it out and loved it from my first viewing and it's great to see the DVDs available, already played series 1 twice over already. The series being an off-shoot of Heartbeat drew my attention to it, set in the 60s a ficticious hospital set in a sea side location (Elsinby) with some welcome cameo appearances by some of the Heartbeat cast, great storylines and seems to delve a bit deeper than its Heartbeat counterpart. I see this as more of a Heartbeat extension rather than an off-shoot, and could also be considered as an adjunct to the Doc Martin Series (although the later is set in current times).Completely loved the series and have just ordered series 2 DVD.

Wonderful to view again!
We've watched 3 of the programmes so far and it's great to be back with the Royal and all the cast again. The cast are a perfect bunch with Matron (Wendy Craig)played perfectly. Mr Rose would never get away with that pipe in this day and age! I'm not sure if the 2nd Series will show Dr Wetherall and Dr Ormorod getting closer, do hope so! Such a shame more programmes like this aren't still made, a great shame that the Royal itself is no longer on. Still, we have the 1st & 2nd Series (though we've not yet had time to play the 2nd yet)and so long as they continue to produce them we will certainly be buying! Thanks Amazon for these, it's wonderful to now be able to sit back and relive it all as much as we wish. I'd been hunting for them for ages and was elated in finding them!
