Building Your Own Home 18th Edition

Essential reference bible. We have just completed our new timber frame eco build. This book was very useful especially re some of the technical / legal stuff when we were at ground level and neighbour issues bubbled up. Good at letting you know whats the "norm" to settle problems rather than find and expensive solicitor.

If you buy this then make sure that you buy a hundredweight of carrots as well. Most of the notes with the diagrams are so small that I can not read them. It is more of a what you need rather than a how to do it book. I am sure the professionals will not agree with me but for a novice it is of very little use. A big disappointment to me.

Bought it for my brother who's hoping to build his own house. The fact that he can't stop reading it is proof enough for me that it's a good book!

Good points but now quite out of date so cannot be relied on for some legal and technical issues. Would be very good if new edition was brought out. Easy to read style.

Don't start a self build without reading this first. Invaluable....a must.
