That soccer players are human beings
This was an excellent book about two players who most soccer fans would never had heard about, even fans of their generationI attended soccer games of Brighton and Hove Abion from about 1955-1969. Then I emigrated to Canada, coached soccer, and still am a fan of the team

I was there!
With my mother and father I have vivid memories of watching Eric and the team from directly beside the manager's 'hut' on the south side after queueing early to get the position. Standing there it was easy to hear the occasional Billy Lane curse! Also recall watching training and going over the road with the team occasionally to 'Mum and Dad's' - I think it was called - caff! Delighted Eric and Dave are still 'keeping' up, to see them on BBC Breakfast, to hear them on the radio and to read Spencer's book about them. Great stuff.

Authentic and Heartwarming
As a supporter of Brighton and Hove Albion since the early 1970's, I was pleased to be given this book for my 79th birthday recently. I have hardly put it down since starting it.Eric and Dave shine through the pages, and though I have never met them, I feel I know both of them well. The contrast between how things were in football when they started out in the 1950's and now is stark. Yet, the fundamentals, those things that keep millions of fans absorbed, remain the same.I loved the personal details about their lives in Brighton and Newcastle, and it was easy to relate to their childhoods back in the 1940's. I'm sure that football fans, young and old, particularly those from Sussex and Tyneside will get great pleasure from reading this heartwarming book. I know I did.
