Q: How easy is it to line up the cutting edge with printed crop marks? Is there a considerable margin of error when it comes to precision?

Of you one up he cutting edge with crop marks you should be ok. It does take a little practie. I draw a straight line on paper the line it up and cut to make sure I have it right. There is no indoctrination of error.

Q: Does it cut right at the edge of the board?

Yes it cuts on the very edge. The paper is held tightly in place by the pressure exerted on plastic bar which lowers as the hand pulled cutter blade is pulled across the paper. I really like the cutter!!!
