The first guide to timber framing written specifically for beginners! Expert Will Beemer takes you through the entire process from start to finish, beginning with timber sourcing and ending with a finished building. Using full-colour photos, detailed drawings, and clear step-by-step instructions, Beemer shows you exactly how to build one small (12? x 16?) timber-frame structure - suitable for use as a cabin, workshop, or studio. He also explains how to modify the structure to suit your needs and location by adding a loft, moving doors or windows, changing the roof pitch, or making the frame larger or smaller. You'll end up with a beautiful building as well as solid timber-framing skills that you can use for a lifetime. Review: Truly excellent and richly illustrated book - A truly amazing book, full of decades of insight and wonderful photos and illustrations. The author has a great skill of simplifying things and making them easy to follow. As different parts of a timber frame house are discussed, illustrations highlight where in the overall build the currently discussed detail and joint is located. Brilliant idea. It takes a holistic approach and covers every relevant detail, from sourcing the wood and learning about wood types, to joints, and erecting the final build. It came recommend by the teacher of a timber frame course I attended in Wales, and I would like to pass on this recommendation. Review: Fantastic! - This book is what i was missing. You can search the internet about timber frames as much as you want. But what you won't find on the internet is in this book. it is fantastic. i had been scratching my head about how you make a certain join. Could not find any information in searching. took a leap and purchased this book within minute of reading i had my answer and many more to questions i hadn't even thought of. tips and guides are clear and to the point. Photos are clear and useful as well.

First Class book.
This is a great book by Will Beemer with forward by Jack Sobon. Up to date with colour everywhere inside. Great photos and coloured, drawn insightful sketches. Very illuminating. I also bought at the same time : Timberframe Construction by Will Beemer with forward by Jack Sobon. I am so glad I have both. I can't choose between them and slight holes in one are made up by the other. Tremendous insights and craft learnt through real experience. Amazing books, just what I needed but I needed both.

So far a brilliant read. Looking forward to trying to reproduce the mastery contained and really interesting to see how we have solved the puzzle of working with rough timber to produce accurate results in so many innovatiove ways over the many centuries. It has certainly made me painfully aware that what may look rough and rudimentary is in fact highly precise and as much master artist as master craftsman. As long as it reduces the shonkiness of my own efforts it will have been money well spent!

Good illustrations, however old fashioned techniques
Very American orientated, although does show how to create a timber frame based on old fashioned woodwork techniques.

So much here
This is a quality tutorial in old-school construction. Having tried some easier joins than those shown here when making an English style workbench, I would caution the woodworking novice against making this their first foray into the world of mortise and tenon joinery.

Great resource for homeowner and aspiring timber framer.
I have been a member of the Timber Framers Guild for a few years, Will has always been in integral part of the TFG, his efforts have always been appreciated as honest, true to the craft while promoting the art. The book touches on a little bit of everything. It is difficult to be all things to all people, a difficult task, but Will hits on all relevant points without being overwhelming. I would consider the book as a solid resource for anyone considering building a timber frame home to understand the multiple factors involved in our craft. I also consider the book a great, likely the best, resource for new, aspiring timber framers - it is well rounded, technical without being technical, and offers insight beyond the typical scope. In the end, great value, great resource and kudos to the author for a job well done! All in all, highly recommended, written well, book design and layout is great and, I believe, a valuable addition to any timber framers library.

Imprescindible, junto con los clรกsicos
Buen libro, muy moderno, con fotos a color. explica muy bien todo el proceso; incluye unos planos generales pero suficientes para construir una casa de 5 x 3. 5 m , explica como hacer todas las uniones.
