I stumbled across this book purely by accident and the combination of the blurb and the fact that it was being marketed for lovers of the Game Of Thrones, I knew I needed to give it ago!The Game Of Thrones it is not! This is a poor attempt at an apocalyptic dystopian novel BUT it had so much potential. All logic is simply thrown out of the window, nothing makes sense half of the time and I found that the lackluster plot had huge gaping holes in it. The writing style leaves much to be desired as it switches POV but isn't very clear, leaving you confused the majority of the time. The characters were ..... meh. In fact it was all a bit meh. Which was a real shame because I was so looking forward to reading this book.It was just a little bit flat for me.However I did like that the plot and background to this story was rather unique, it was just such a shame that the delivery of the story didn't do it justice.

Completely unique dystopian, fantasy world that crumbles thanks to crater-sized plot holes.
I’m completely torn about Frozen. There are some elements to this book that I absolutely fell in love with, and there are others I really, really disliked. Let me explain:I loved, and I mean LOVED, the world in Frozen. It’s a sort of dystopian fantasy world, set in a future in which everything is frozen (duh). Our story starts off in a very different Las Vegas to the one we know now, but it still felt remarkably familiar (particularly as I was in Vegas this very January). That made it really easy to place myself into this story and vividly imagine the environment, complete with trashbergs (like icebergs but made of trash, or rubbish as we like to call it in the UK). It’s unique, imaginative and magical. What makes the world in Frozen even cooler (no pun intended) is the ‘Marked’. Marked people have all sorts of powers. There are other magical creatures, too, even zombies, which I thought was probably taking things a bit too far but I was willing to let that slide. It never was made clear how exactly a new ice age caused magic to be a thing but I tried not to ask too many questions about that one and just enjoyed it as a fantasy from the get-go.But then came the mushy, over the top romance, which totally ruined things for me. It didn’t help that I didn’t quite ‘get’ Nat as our main character, a sign of poor character building, and the ending left me with that dreaded ‘what?’ feeling that I well and truly despise. It’s a shame. This book had the potential to be so, so brilliant. The ideas behind the world are so unusual and it’s rare to read a book that feels so different from anything you’ve read before. But the holes in the world building are enormous, and it’s only looking back at it now that I’ve realise just how huge they are. They’re more like craters, in fact. There are so, so many questions I have about it that haven’t been answered, and without those questions it’s like a jigsaw puzzle that has been forced together with pieces from 20 different puzzles. Each piece is intriguing, clever, unique, but put them together and it’s one giant, jumbled mess.Frozen is actually the first book in a new series called Heart of Dread. Right now, I’m not sure I’ll continue reading the series, but I think I’ll eventually get curious about where the story went after that bonkers ending and give it a go. You never know, it could answer all of my questions!

I Should Stop Reading Dystopia's...
(I received this book free for review via netgalley.)BASICALLY: the world is frozen and everyone's a teenager.IN DEPTH: the premise of this actually sounded pretty cool, the world was frozen over and some people were born 'marked' and therefore were feared, however, due to my past experiences with one of the authors I was reluctant to buy this book and risk being disappointed.THE PLOT: The story does unfold at a reasonable pace, the plotline is relatively interesting (except for a part of the middle where I just wanted to scream). My main problem with the plot is that the characters felt too young, I understand in the dystopic society that ofter the adults or elders of a society have gone as they are the people that can inspire change or remember the before or whatever but 12 year olds onwards as a part of the army, it just felt unrealistic. Particularly when they suddenly became the hottest thing since toasted sliced bread. It just felt too forced for me.THE CHARACTERS: I wasn't that interested in the main characters, I wish I could have been and the authors did everything right and I just couldn't connect. They just weren't there for me, they weren't real. There was also a little too much insta-love for me as well.MY THOUGHTS: I was disappointed I didn't like this - I really wanted to but I just didn't. This book, unfortunately, just wasn't for me.

My new favourite book!
I was looking for some new books to read and saw this one, it has a dragon on the front so naturally I was drawn to it being a fantasy book, after reading it now I am desperate to...

Good outweighed by the incredibly bad
Welcome to New Vegas, a city once covered in bling, now blanketed in ice. Like much of the destroyed planet, the place knows only one temperature—freezing.

A great idea, sadly it needed more for me.
For me this review is a hard one to write. It's not because this book really wasn't what I was expecting, it's because in all honestly I'm not exactly sure how to review a book...

Messy
This book is messy - and I don't just mean the formatting, which I hope was just down to being a review copy.

Interesting start to a new series
Nat only remembers the instituation and can't escape the voice in her head guiding her with visions of destruction in a Dystopian World ruined by the generations before it.

If you don’t mind info dumping and love action, fantasy, dystopian fiction and anything in between.
Nat is a young blackjack dealer working for New Vegas, but she’s also marked: a monster inside her head and magical gifts which she can’t control.
