I am writing to assure you that all our product meets Learning Resources high standards for toy safety. They do NOT contain phthalates or lead and are made of PVC and low density polyethylene. They do not contain BPA and is made with PVC plastics.We take safety very for all of our children's products and toys are evaluated against the standards set forth by the Consumer Products Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA). This includes testing for certain phthalates (a plasticizer used to make plastic soft), lead in paint, lead in substrate and compliance with the testing guidelines set forth by ASTM F-963."Also, I will say that this is easily the best "play food" we have found. You will not be disappointed.

Q: Is it good quality play food that will hold up to toddlers playing (not going to be squished in very easy like the cheap big sets at walmart?)

Yes, the quality is very good. The pieces will not be squished in easily. I've had several types of play food, and this is the best quality I've seen.

Q: The manufacturer says ages 2+, but Amazon says not for under 3. What are the best ages for this?

My daughter started playing with these toys at 18mos. I'm think the Amazon over 3 thing is an error he box says 2 and up and I don't see how any of them are a choking hazard but I always supervise my daughter with them just because she isn't yet 2

Q: Do food items squeak and have wholes like bath toys? (I find them hard to clean if they have wholes because water can get stuck and get moldy).

No holes. The pieces are great quality and don't seem to mold or get liquid inside at all. My kids have had this item for about 6 months
