Incredible
This book's message was totally unexpected. I feel like it was written just for me - really blew me away. It answers the dilemma of the problem of evil we face in today's world and our response to it like no other.

Tremendous book
A friend gave me this little book about 16 years ago. I’ve read a lot of Lloyd Jones over the years and have always greatly enjoyed him, but this little gem sat for years unread.I lifted it down as I was speaking on Habakkuk in our church. It’s thrilling reading. The original messages were preached earlier than a lot of the doctors other material that has gone into print, the result being that it is very concise and to the point. It truly stirred my soul. It is worth getting for even one point alone that he makes in chapter 4 point 4. I won’t spoil if for you but he sums up beautifully what it means to live by faith as opposed to living in this world without God. It’s an absolute classic summary of the Christian position.Highly recommended. How we need men of this caliber in our day. Men who 100% stand on the word of God and know what it teaches and how to teach it.

Clear biblical teaching on the sovereignty of God!
I first read this about 33 years ago and it opened my eyes as a young man of 21 to understanding the sovereignty of God. It is basically the good doctor's sermons as he preaches through the book of Habakkuk as it charts the prophets reaction from his cry to God to act in judgement against his rebellious people to horror at the message of God's means of judgement and then his patient faith until being rewarded with an answer which demonstrates God's sovereignty over all he has created. I have used it in recent years to preach through the book myself both in my last church and the one I'm presently pastoring. It is not a commentary as such but it is a thorough and wonderfully easy to read pastoral exposition of the book and so should definitely be read a long-side other commentaries on Habakkuk. All in all I cannot overemphasise well how worthwhile it would be buying this and having it on your bookshelf for preaching, leading Bible studies or using for your private devotions.

Habbakuk explained
An excellent little book from one of the finest preachers of the twentieth century. The book contains six chapters, which were sermons preached on the book of Habbakuk. The author shows that things don't often work out as we would wish, and that sometimes our prayers are not answered in the way that we would like. The author highlights 'the prophet's perplexity' at the circumstances facing his nation, but then goes on towards the end to show how Habbakuk comes to a point of trust and humble submission before the Almighty God, even though all things precious to him might be lost. The last two chapters give us valuable lessons on 'how to pray' and 'how to rejoice in tribulations.' During the course of the book, we can see how the prophet moves 'from fear to faith.'These sermons were initially preached during World War II so the content would have been rather significant for the hearers living in those troublesome days, who would have wandered what would happen to their nation. However, the message is still a timely one for us today. I personally find this shorter book much more refreshing than the exhaustive Romans and Ephesians series by the same author. Also, in addition, it is worth pointing out that there are (regrettably) very few titles by Dr. Lloyd-Jones based on the Old Testament, so this one is well worth having.A very helpful and encouraging book.
