Not sure the messaging is right
This book has lots of great reviews but I’m not sure the messaging is right for us. I don’t like the “wanting to make mummy proud and happy” bits as though I wouldn’t be happy if he didn’t use the potty or had an accident. I don’t think that is the right message and I felt awkward reading those parts to my 2 year old. There are also 2 sections of the book dedicated to accidents which I get are a part of potty training but I think could have been framed as more positive experiences. When poor Caillou wets himself in the sandpit it’s pretty traumatic. Imagine being a 2 year old and having that read to you when you are embarking on potty training, it just seemed to bring the focus onto accidents and crying from those accidents which for a kid who doesn’t know what it’s like to use the potty yet is surely not going to make them to keen…Finally this is I guess French Canadian which explains the Americanisms “diaper” and “go potty” and the name Caillou. That was ok for us, we just changed the words as we read it to “nappy”, “mummy”, etc…

This lovely vely book with nice pictures helped me a lot with potty training my daughter. She was 33 months old when i received that book and immediately wanted to go on potty and didn't want to wear any diaper anymore. It went very fast and she got completely potty trained in 1 month. She is not the biggest fan of Caillou, but this book was a hit for us. I surely would recommend it.
