Batman: The Dark Knight Strikes Again

Batman: The Dark Knight Strikes Again
It has been three years since Bruce Wayne supposedly died protecting Gotham and the United States is under Martial Law as the President clamps down hard on the world's superheroes. The bottle city of Kandor is being held hostage to ensure Superman toes the line and it is as if the world has been abandoned by its costumed protectors. Batman is the only voice of hope in the wilderness.Much more aggressively drawn and coloured than its forebear, 'The Dark Knight Strikes Again' is a different beast altogether. The rage against oppression screams off the page and the media bias is far more a contribution to the storyline. Miller's book is very much the sequel and development of its predecessor.

A superior sequel,viva the revolution
Three years after the events of the last comic, bruce and his "sons" begin their new mission. Not to make gotham safer but to over throw the corrupt regime that has the U.S. in its velvet gloved grip.Real world parallels abound. They strike at government bases freeing secretly imprisoned JLA members and recruiting them into their ranks. With superman still sitting on the side lines ,batman intends a full scale revolution and over throw of the president, doomsday weapons or no.I was amazed at how good this story was ,considering all the bad reviews about it plastered all over the internet. That's the moral ,never trust an internet review ,especially this one.If there's a moral to this story its that compromise can be a very bad thing and can take you to a very bad place.enjoy

A great story, let down in places by the artwork.
The story is great, although I found it a little confusing in parts and had to check I'd not missed something important a few times. The artwork blows hot and cold. When it's good, its sublime, where it's bad, I felt disappointed as I just expected more. I'm a fan of Miller and Batman, and this review is possibly a little biased, but if I'm honest, it's not without it's faults, but I forgave its flaws and I did enjoy it.

Another Classic
Re-reading this classic is amazing, so much is written into the fabric of the story that unless you were there. You miss. Satire and a microscope on the climate at the time.

THE BAR WAS SET TOO HIGH WITH DK1
The Dark Knight Returns is my favourite comic ever! This is nowhere near as captivating, the drawings and inks are not good at all (I mean, what's with Superman's logo?), and, probably worst of all, Batman is hardly even in it! This mainly fixates around Carrie (AKA Robin from DK1), who is now Catgirl and a group called the Batboys (remember the mutants Bruce trains in DK1?) saving various DC heroes and creating a new kind of 'Justice League'. Don't get me wrong, with all the heroes in the story, it could have been miles better. There's The Atom, The Flash and Plastic Man to name a few! Another part of the story I didn't understand was turning Dick (Robin/Nightwing) against Bruce because of pure jealousy. Everyone knows that Bruce and Dick are very close and, I found that twist very disppointing. Maybe Frank will redeem himself with a DK3, but I wouldn't hold your breath!

Kerpow Batman's Back
Superb story, pop art style graphics. Totally twisted tale with DC's Big Three as well as major and rarer stars, loved it.👏

Why do they keep bashing this?
This is awesome storytelling in the DC universe. It's a great continuing of The Dark Knight Returns. The drawings are on some pages a cartoonists version of a picasso. That I think is what most people hate about this book. But if you don't have any fantasy to see what is really there, why the f... do you even read super hero comics in the first place?

An infamous book that deserves its reputation.
The Dark Knight Strikes again is a notoriously poor sequel to the amazing the Dark Knight Returns and I find it hard to disagree with the book's reputation. I expected my impression of the book would be similar to how I felt about All Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder, which in my opinion has a worse reputation than it deserves, possibly due to disappointment at the time of its release, but in this case I think the criticism this book receives is entirely fair. There are some interesting ideas scattered throughout the book and some gorgeous art in places, but the plot is often muddled and difficult to follow, while the art is unbelievably bad in places, to a point where it's difficult to figure out exactly what its supposed to be depicting. It feels like Miller was trying to get through the book as quickly as possible in all aspects and unfortunately it makes for a fairly unpleasant read in basically all aspects. If you're curious about the follow-up to TDKR, you're better off letting your curiosity go unsated. If you're interested in the (superior but not essential) sequel to this, the Master Race, then this is basically required reading to understand what's happening and who the characters are in that book. Absolutely not recommended to anyone who hasn't read TDKR.

A great follow up to the original and best COME BACK.
Loved the story and more so then it being a Batman story it involves SOOOOO MUCH more it's awesome. Even some you wouldn't think you'd see and meet some new ones also. Love the way some of the characters are drawn I love some are a little too interpretive for me but even the ones that are a bit much, like Lex Luthor aka Marv from Sin City's older fatter bald brother lol but in this story IT WORKS!! And again seeing some of the others the interpretation is so different but still interesting and great. The story and the way it all u folds I love and this being the 3rd or 4th time I've read it, it just gets better and better but DEFINITELY READ THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS 1ST.

Excelente!
