This game is perfect
Oh...my..God. Ubisoft have just made quite possibly one of the best games they've ever released! This game is just insane. So, for you fans out there, let's back track a little. Desmond, unfortunately, is indeed dead. You now play as...yourself (kinda). You now take on the role of an Abstergo employee, at Abstergo Entertainment, and have been assigned to the "Sample 17 Project" - yeah you guessed it, Desmond's bloodline is being researched. As this employee, you are to research Edward Kenway, one of the many badass ancestors within Desmond's family tree. But as this employee, you can also hack into your colleagues computers, finding out more about abstergo, the aftermath of AC3's ending, other assassins, Vidic's past, and voice recordings of Desmond himself in his final days.As Edward, you start off as a simple pirate; he cares about nothing but the next big reward he can steal, in his lasting quest for fame and fortune. But, as greed eats away at Edward, he is quickly drawn into the assassin/templar war, and the rest, well..you'll have to buy the game to find out!I found Edward to be extremely likable straight away, the way his character is developed, and the characteristics he adopts, is unravelled expertly. There's many layers to this man, and we see him grow throughout the game. A huge difference from the previous AC title (whiny Connor - nuff said!)The story itself is a deep and lengthy tale, with many surprises and non-cliche twists, which I personally found to be a surprise, and a joy to find myself constantly guessing wrong about what I thought might happen next. Edward's introduction to the Assassin/templar war starts as very entertaining, and kept me interested even after he eventually becomes an assassin. (That's not a spoiler - you know he'll become an assassin even if he isn't one right away). As for the other characters, I found them to be a joy to watch, Blackbeard is a great character and even the templars themselves are brilliant. The only problem I had with one of the characters was the voice actor chosen for Kidd - my God her voice was annoying, badly acted, and appears a lot in the game. A bad choice imo.The gameplay is incredible, above par when compared to AC3. Sure, it's similar, but it also feels different somehow. The free running is just as smooth and assassinating is just as fun as ever.In terms of naval gameplay, however, a lot has changed. There's so many upgrades for the Jackdaw - cannons, barrels, slingshots, armour, swivel guns, mortars and rams, not to mention the many customizations for it's appearance, from a range of flags, wheels and figureheads for the front of your ship. There's so much to get for your ship, and its fun to do it, knowing that with each upgrade, you can get into harsher situations, which means bigger rewards. The only problem i found with this is that early on in the game, you do find yourself free-roaming and getting desynched because your ship is quite weak to start with, meaning man o' wars are out of the question when in a naval battle...a tip for you - get as many upgrades early on as you can!In terms of activities and free-roaming - good lord - the map is enormous! There's so much to do, with a few dozen islands to explore, caverns to raid, sea-beds to swim around, forts to destroy, whales and sharks to harpoon (which by the way if you're wondering, has the purpose of letting you upgrade Edward himself) There's a ton of side-assassination missions to do, warehouses to raid and so many collectibles, i dare not mention them all! There's just so much to do in this game, it is impossible for anyone to say there's nothing to do when you complete it (a problem i found with GTA5!) I should also mention the new range of animals featured within the game, just a few that caught my eye - iguanas, monkeys, crocodiles, jaguars, hogs - and lets not forget the sea creatures, from sharks to whales, eels and even jelly fish! This game just really feels like you're reliving that era of piracy - i know that's the point - but i just mean the attention to detail is something that the production team should, and no doubt are, proud of!The main missions themselves are a joy to play. Stealth is actually an option again, and the feeling of being a proper assassin is back, there's slightly noticable ommages to and inspirations from the original AC title. The soundtrack too is great, very...well, piraty. Ambient soundtracks when free-roaming is also back, something else AC3 lacked. In terms of technicality, the graphics are amazing. The characters and their costumes are well-detailed, the world itself looks genuine, and beautiful, the weather and sea look very realistic, and the game itself doesn't feel rushed. I think I've only seen about 2 glithes, and I've racked up about 35-40hours play-time.All-in-all this game is just off the hook! It definitely feels like you get your moneys worth, and I'd recommend it to anyone, especially if you're an AC fan - if you were put off by AC3's ending, then trust me when I say that AC4 certainly makes up for it.What an absolute pleasure an privilege to play. 11/10!

And now for something completely different...
An incredible achievement from Ubisoft yet again. The Assassin's Creed series has moved from strength to strength since its debut and has gone on to become one of the most popular gaming franchises, and rightfully so!Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag takes you another leap forward again, deep into the world of piracy, mysterious treasure and the ongoing Assassin-Templar war. I'll simplify some highlights of the game (especially things others may not have mentioned) with just a small pros list:- Edward Kenway. Undoubtedly the most cunning and debatably the most amusing Assassin (since Ezio at least, however all previous Assassin's have been heroes in their own way), Edward is a true rogue and an impressive fighter. There are, maybe, fewer weapons for him to wield compared to previous Assassin's but that isn't a problem as it cuts out on the unnecessary and leaves you with the key arsenal and as many pistols as a man can carry. His wit is highly amusing, as is his greed and brutality. He is also going back to basics with the stealth aspect, as most of his crew are drunken brawlers he must do all his sneaky assassinating himself (ain't no rest for the wicked). This means a lot more sneaking into heavily fortified areas with little more than a few blades and pistols and all the mischief in the seven seas. If none of that has won you over, he is Welsh (mae'n Cymraeg).- Pirates of the Caribbean. Throughout your travels you will undoubtedly encounter many of the heroes of the age. Just like with all Assassin's Creed games, you will meet the famous and historical. However the characters in Black Flag are all the most cruel, adventurous and dashing villains a man can meet. Anyone with a small knowledge of the Golden Age of Piracy will be clapping with delight every time a new pirate captain's face appears. With pirates like Blackbeard, Charles Vane, Benjamin Hornigold, Calico Jack, Mary Read, Stede Bonnet, Anne Bonney, Bartholomew Roberts... What's not to love?- Song of the Seas. Brian Taylor has scored a fantastic set to accompany the game. It improves the mood and highlights every quest you set out upon. The music behind a game really influences its atmosphere just as much as graphics or gameplay and this time Black Flag has got it perfect. The sea shanties you can collect for your crew to sing greatly improve those long voyages at sea.- An Epic Tale. The story of Edward Kenway, the beginner of the Kenway family saga, is one with plot twists, romance, betrayals, friendships and wonders galore. Be prepared to immerse yourself in his life and ready your nerves for any tragedy that might fall upon you along the way.- Future Setting. One of the true mysteries to the Assassin's Creed games is the modern day setting. After all the twists and turns of the previous games as to Those Who Came Before and the Apples of Eden, Ubisoft have created a very bizarre yet incredibly intriguing future setting for the new protagonist to jump into. They'll be a few surprises, and some familiar faces.- And everything else. There is so much content to this game. From Naval Warfare, to Jackdaw upgrades, to having you own little pirate cove, buying guns, beautiful rain-forests, meeting the Mayan Assassins, Templar hunting, hacking Abstergo computers, petty theft, underwater chaos, hidden jungle cities, Assassin contracts, hunting beasts of both land and sea, blowpipes, huge 'floating-fortress' sized ships, epic monologues, buying more guns, treasure hunting, multiplayer mayhem... The list goes on.Thoroughly recommend this game on whatever platform (I'm sure the next-gen will be greater still). So buy yourself a copy, strap yourself in, and happy hunting matey's.
