BEWARE IF TRYING TO DECEIVE!
Micro-changes of expression can reveal all. Cal Lightman is an expert in the field, often called upon by authorities to help investigations. Unlikely as it may seem, the series is based on painstaking scientific study - leading authority Paul Ekman its technical adviser. For binge-watchers, this three season set of the 2009-2011 series may prove a treat indeed. 48 episodes (13+22+13), over 30 hours of viewing. As "lie guy" Cal, Tim Roth dominates - all to be resolved in a succession of mainly intriguing cases. Many have enthused, especially about Tim Roth's performance. Some, though, may have reservations - feeling a promising first season suffered somewhat when the next sought to sex things up a bit. For them Cal may have become too cocky for comfort - a bully at work (poor Eli), too often over the top elsewhere (especially in Season 2's episode 13). Scenes generally work better when he is not so obnoxious, so full of himself.Perhaps proving the point, a growing pleasure are those sequences at home - Hayley McFarland delightful as teen daughter Emily as she strives to outwit her awesomely perceptive dad. What chance of a boyfriend with him around!Despite such reservations (which few seem to share), the series offers much to impress. Bonuses are worth investigating, Paul Ekman himself often contributing. Amusingly Tim Roth declares he learned much in the role - politicians on screen now of particular interest. There, more than ever, micro-changes of expression reveal so much.

Fabulous
Absolutely fabulous drama. How Fox got rid of this is bewildering , it would never stop running if it was up to me. Best drama I have seen ...

Good Show, Well Packaged
THE SHOW:It's a fairly entertaining show, of a well-known recipe: someone with special skills helping the authorities in investigating crimes. So what's the difference between "Lie to me" and other shows like "Medium", "Bones", "Castle", "Psych", "Sherlock", "The mentalist" and all those other dime-a-dozen crime shows? Well, for one thing, it's quite interesting. The real-life scientist Paul Ekman's work on microexpressions is something we can all learn a bit from. Imagine how many conflicts you could avoid if you knew how to read other people's emotions a bit better. Mostly, though, what makes TV shows like the ones I mentioned special - what decides if you like them or not - depends on the characters and whether you like them. Honestly, there are only a couple of characters that are special enough to really enjoy watching on the screen. The acting isn't bad, but only Tim Roth truly shines.THE ITEM:The DVD box arrives as three standard plastic DVD cases within a cardboard box, so the quality is fairly standard. Each disc contains a number of episodes on them, and there are no big annoying commercials or "pirating is a crime" clips that you can't skip, just a couple of trailers that you can. There are also some mice extra features if you're interested in that kind of thing.

Very informative, not just entertainment
This is quite brilliant, because to get the actors to make the right facial expressions is not easy. To fake a lie is not easy, as the actors are not lying about real issues. Although I’m quite good at discerning truth and lies, this series has added more info for me to look out for; didn’t know about micro expressions. Cal gets more and more annoying as the show progresses, I think that should have been toned down a bit. One doesn’t have to be obnoxious to see well. All in all, I enjoyed it very much.

the lie
We had to buy this as the prime video stopped being on prime video and had to pay for it. So we made sure we had a hard copy.

Interesting DVD
Someone recommended this series to me and I am really enjoying it. It's perfect viewing when there is nothing else on and the characters are really likeable. Nice and slick like most American TV shows, although the main character is English. Interesting subject matter as the main character is a deception specialist and reads people's body language. Enlightening.
