From the Manufacturer You probably know it as "Four in a Row", but Captain’s Mistress has been around for centuries. It’s a classic game with a rich history, played by such sea-faring figures as Captain Cook. The rules are simple to learn but the strategy can take a lifetime to master. Be the first to place 4 of your marbles in a row and you win. This eye-catching game is crafted from solid wood and makes an attractive home décor piece. Looks great on the coffee table or in any room of the house. Includes 42 rustic glass marbles in garnet red and cobalt blue and a felt covered interior. Over 11” wide and 7” deep. This heirloom-quality game will be enjoyed by the whole family and passed down to future generations.

Nothing beats "Captain's Mistress" for hours of fun, regardless of age!
This game was an old favorite of our family for many years, actually used to use it on our sailboat. When our young Grandson recently visited us he was enamored with it, even though there were plenty of bright plastic "flashy" things all around. While too young to understand the concept, he still spend long periods of time with his Grandpa sitting on the floor "playing" this game. We just bought another and will be sending it to him for his birthday this year!

Everything is great...but
I really like the game and the look of it but the glass balls are just too close in color. You need a perfectly lit room to distinguish between the red and blue glass balls/marbles.

Thrown back in history
Just spent the weekend at a pre 1840's re-enactment where we had the Captain's Mistress available...It was nice having a period-correct game for the kids.

EXCELLENT Game!
The Kid'z are SWARMING it! The Wife & I Enjoy having a Go at eachother with it aswell. The Box,Rack,& Stop Bar are all made of Solid Wood,so the Durability ought to bepretty good.As with all things of Value just treat it with a little respect. For thisreason this is one of the Thingz that stays in our Master Bedroom,& the Kid'z are NOTallowed to carry it off to destinations unknown.Naturally it isn't PERFECT,nothingever is.The game does have #2 problems.First off the Clear Blue & Red Marbles suppledwith the Game are FAR to close in Color to be Clearly visible in less than IdealLight.Secondly it's LOUD!Have a think,Glass SLAMMING into Glass during Gameplay, thenworse still the careening CRASH of all the Marbles dumping into the Box all at oncewhen you pull the Wooden Stop Bar out to reset the Game for another round,or closethe Box at the end of Play. You could however correct BOTH of these issues easily.Onthe Visibility issue, have a Think about buying additional Black,& White Marbles(solid in color of course). On the NOISE issue have a think about using WoodenMarbles.Either way the Game will be MUCH more user friendly replacing the StockMarbles.Wanna KILL two Birdz with one Stone? Get your Pawz on some Wooden Marbles &Paint them Black,& White!Either way just bear in mind you will need 7/8ths inch,or22mm Marbles for the best fit in the Channels. If you're a MAD MOD'R such as myself, you could even go so far as to install Padding in the Bottom of the Felt lined Box.So if you want a Nostalgic Game(supposedly dating back to,or beyond the 1700's) withSTRAIGHTFORWARD Gameplay.LOW maintenance.SOLID Construction & Few Parts to TEARUP(take that COPY-CAT Connect Four)that EVERYONE will truly enjoy then this one's aSURE FIRE WINNER!
