Quality through and through.
Bought Sitka gear for the first time this year for an elk hunt out west and was not disappointed. Quality made stuff to say the least & worth the cost.

A great item to have in your gear
A great item to have in your gear. Im from the Pacific Northwest where its always raining, so this is a must have item. This jacket is built heavy-duty. With my boots, Thunderhead Jacket and Thunderhead paints Im 8 pounds heavier. {boots are 3.5 pounds}

This is a fantastic jacket. It’s quiet
This is a fantastic jacket. It’s quiet. Well constructed, comfortable, sheds water like it’s nothing and really keeps the wind out.

Nice for Pacific Northwest
Light, great for Pacific Northwest, used for duck hunting, kept me nice and dry. Need to wear layers, this is made to keep rain and wind out. However need layers to keep you warm

Sitka missed the mark with this one
It works flawlessly like all other Sitka products I’ve used. However, the jacket is about 3” too short. I’m 5’10 175lb with 34” inseam. My torso is on the shorter side and even still I wish it were a bit longer. My Sitka under layer will hang out and get wet which isn’t ideal. Also my arms are bit bigger than average and the sleeves are tight on my forearms. Jacket doesn’t necessarily bind but it’s noticeably tight and uncomfortable because I can’t help but notice it and think about it. Again works great but Sitka needs to add about an in of material to the sleeve diameter and add 3” to the bottom of the jacket and it would be a perfect rain shell.

Not great for rugged use.
Used the Sitka Thunderhead jacket and pants in the Alpine of Prince of Wales, Alaska August 2019. They failed in the rain the first day and then again on the second day (leaked through the arms and seat mostly). It can rain pretty severely there but I figured that wouldn’t be a problem ( I was wrong). A guy I was with had Browning Speed rain gear and he had no problems.Once I was back I sent the items back to Sitka under their warranty. They tested the items and found many pin sized holes. They advised the items were ruined. They also told me that they are not designed for going through the brush , spruce and devils club. They said it’s more of a sit in a tree stand or walk in the open country type gear.They were not able to fix or replace the pants and jacket. They offered me a set of Sitka Cloudbursts for 50% off (about $340) but I didn’t accept it. Just couldn’t justify spending more money after the first set failed. So be mindful that their warranty is not universal.Their customer service was helpful and prompt but couldn’t resolve my issue. They have good marketing, just be careful what your expectations are. Like many outdoor products they are probably great for using in the most vanilla conditions but don’t stand up well to more extreme ventures.
