Race Driver: GRID (PS3)

So grid has been out for a while now and i first come into contact with it when it was first released and my initial thoughts were My God this is crap.So if people said have you played grid id always say yes its crap don't get it etc which to be honest I don't have a clue what I was on about let me explain.I bought the game purely because I wanted a cheap driving game and couldn't find anything appealing so I thought id have a go at this and see if I could get to grips with it this time.I put the game in it loaded up and instead of creating a user profile i thought id play it without the profile or autosave just to get to grips with it before i started cracking on and im glad i did the cars have excellent graphics the gameplay is brilliant the thing i think this game excels in however is reality purely because if you hit a bend at over 80mph you don't just glide round the corner you need to hang on as tho your on the edge of cliff with slippy shoes on its difficult and thats what makes a good game cars that have a personality.

Grew up on the old TOCA touring cars games, then had the Toca Race Drivers a bit later, so was expecting a similar experience out of this.Not quite.If you've gone straight from GT or (even worse as I did) an F1 game to playing this you'll hate it at first. You're used to realism and racing lines, then suddenly you're powersliding everything, braking distance is greatly reduced and grip levels go through the roof. It had me sat staring at the screen in stunned dismay at how bizarre everything was.But once I managed to tune out of the F1 game I'd been playing for the last month and got the hang of how the handling works in Grid, I thought it was a great game. The AI is excellent and the damage system is near-perfect (so it's even more disappointing that Codemasters still haven't got a decent one for the F1 games). Career mode is interesting and varied and I liked being able to hire a team mate, pick sponsors, colour schemes and cars for events.On the downside... they made that beautiful damage system, and you're damn well going to see it whether you like it or not. Contact with another car into a corner is almost totally unpredictable and it's not unusual to have your car flung around like a rag doll from the slightest touch (very TOCA 2 style). Kerbs have sweet spots and nasty spots and an inch the wrong way can send you flying. And even the AI seems to want you to crash (often sacrificing themselves just so they can turn into your rear and send both of you straight on into a wall).And the headlights at Le Mans... is there a high beam setting I'm missing?Overall a great game... it has a few flaws but once you learn to live with them they almost add to the experience (doing the Le Mans dark lap from memory, unable to see anything, is actually a lot of fun), rather than detract from it.

first of all there are not many games that you can see in detail that when you hit a wall that the whole car dismantles itself,the slightest bump and you cause damage that you can see,so for driving at high speeds trying to win a race is awesome,also there are no easy/medium or hard levels,you just have to work harder to try and win all races,i have also got grid 2 and compared to the grid 1 i wish i had saved my money as this is much better,i have tried the f1 games and they are not for me,and also the need for speed which are not too bad but every so often when i want a racing game then grid 1 gets my vote,well done to codemasters as this is a great driving game,

very good racing game nice arcade feel to the game & the visuals are stunning for a game made 2008 had fun playing the game however i didn't get to experience the online features so there wasn't much replay ability from the game after you reach the top tier of racing

I bought this under the premise and recommendation that it was like the next Gran Turismo.I may have set my sights too high, but I found the game disappointing and the controls terrible.I suppose it is down to personal taste, but traded this game in not long after buying it.

The Grid is so good they put it arcade's all over the uk.Great looking, fresh approaching pure racing thrills.Still delivers a fast challenge and a delight to play in single player or split screen.Different races to compete in, in a range of cars, drift, race and try not to damage your car along the way, a rewind system lets you undo SOME of the damage, which WILL affect your cars performance during the race (rare to see this).OUTSTANDING fun and every car feels the way it should, and co drivers within your race gain points for your team to manage.A visual treat for your eyes!!

Dissapointed, it won't work properly will only play on arcade mode won't install the full game. Such a shame.

un super jeu on fait son écurie on la gere nous meme en engageant des personnes, le graphisme est bien, les voitures sont bien réalisés et finir chaque saison pas les 24H du mans c'est génial

Grafik ist top, die Menüführung schön, die Musik stimmig, das Schadensmodell klasse, die Rückblendfunktion originell bis sehr hilfreich (wenn man sich mal wieder sein Fahrzeug zerlegt), die KI manchmal unberechenbar und schwer (was es abwechslungsreich und spannend macht), die Autos vielzählig. Leider sind die Strecken etwas zu wenig ausgefallen und der eigene Teamkollege macht manchmal etwas Blödsinn auf der Strecke. Aber das Sponsoring was Bonus-Geldgutschrift gibt falls man die ersten Plätze belegt ist sehr förderlich für das Spielgeschehen und die Übersicht über die vielen Etappen in den verschiedenen Ländern der Kategorien sind echt gut gemacht.Leider fehlt wie bei fast jedem Rennspiel für Konsolen der Mehspielermodus im Splitscreen. Wie können Entwickler so gute Spiele auf den Markt werfen und den Mehrspielermodus total auslassen??? Sich auf einer Konsole mit dem Freund zu duellieren und stundenlang Spaß zu haben ist doch grad das interessante bei so einem teils Arcade- , teils Simulationsracer. Deswegen ziehe ich bei diesem Punkt einen Stern ab!Fazit: Für den "Ego"-Spieler super, für einen gemeinsamen Abend mit Freunden ungenügend da kein Modus vorhanden! Sehr schade
