Directed By Douglas Sirk [DVD]

This is a great box set with classic films from a bygone era. I love Rock Hudson and have seen all his comedies with Doris Day. I remembered seeing him in a film with Jane Wyman years ago when just a young girl. I loved that film and it stayed in my memory. I decided to look it up and found out it was All That Heaven Allows.It was just as good second tme around as an adult but my favourite in this set is Magnificent Obsession. What a brilliant weepie. Just fantastic. All I Desire with Barbara Stanwick is good stuff and Written on the Wind is excellent too and you can see where the eighties soaps got their inspiration.The only film that seemed out of place to me was Has Anyone Seen My Gal - which I enjoyed but which didn't fit the tone of the other films in this collection.If you like Rock Hudson and you enjoyed him in the romantic comedies he did then you have got to get this boxset - it is excellent value for money with some great films.

This is an especially good collection for us in the US because at least 3 titles are unavailable otherwise and several others are only available as Criterion Collection selections. So at the current under $20 price , it is a best deal at amazon.uk -- I was especially thrilled to get a very nice widescreen dvd of THE TARNISHED ANGELS , unavailable anywhere else that I know of with the three stars of WRITTEN ON THE WIND- Hudson , Malone , and Stack -- ANGELS is one of Sirk's absolute best.

Have not watched these yet? But I cannot wait? Saw few of them as teenager and swooned over Rock Hudson.

Great box! If you like Douglas Sirk films this is the box for you.

Great films and value for money.

Picture quality good, one film was perhaps shot in 66:1 or 85:1 and shown in in 2:35:1 but it did not detract from viewing pleasure.

I am very happy with this item.
