Product description Neil Young - Harvest Moon - CD .co.uk When Neil Young seems about to zig, he zags. Two years after 1990's loud Ragged Glory, he retreats to an old world of steel guitars, gentle folk melodies, and pristine country choruses. (That's Linda Ronstadt, who helped make 1972's Harvest a hit album, singing backup on the follow-up.) Young name-drops Hank Williams, Jimi Hendrix, and his old dog, King, in rich reminiscences about the musical ride he and his fans have shared since the late '60s. The album, as Young sings in "One of These Days," is "a long letter to all the good friends I've known." --Steve Knopper

Fine album
Neil Young has had a long and creative life. This album, made during 1992 has the moving, emotional and delirious eponymous track Harvest Moon -it's about the beauty of human love, children, family and life. A Radio 4 show had a piece dedicated to this particular song and its meaning for the listener. Wondrous. Check out the country barn video on YouTube. Worth a look. In Harvest Moon Young consolidates the fleeting, confirms the transient and explains this process in accessible lyrics and accompaniment music. It's rather like the Greek philosophy of flow and fluidity. The opener Unknown Legend narrates through drum, acoustic guitar and speaks of a woman seen in "a small town". Storytelling is the fundament of music and even if it does mention a Harley Davidson in the opener there is true reverence to human life, to women, to our pairings.

Young at his best
A belated sequel to perhaps Young's most well known album Harvest, this album is a return to that acoustic style and features many of the same musicians, which in itself is a guarantee of quality. This is a laid back, country tinged album based around acoustic guitar, banjo and harmonica with Young's inimitable warble taking centre stage. For me this album features some of Young's strongest work, with the title track, "Unknown Legend" and "Dreaming Man" being particular standouts. It has many echoes of Harvest, and is definitely an early album to purchase if you are looking for his softer side, with some electric work such as Reactor much trickier to get into. Lovely stuff.
