Sometimes... (Emma Dodd Series)

Negative focus
I did not like this language used in this book as on some pages it focused on when your child is not nice, when they misbehave etc. Although there are times when your child does misbehave, story time is not a time for discussing behaviour. Story time is more for relaxation, tapping into imagination and just being together. Therefore, this story was not sort of thing we would read with our children, so we returned to book back to Amazon

Lovely, esteem building, bond building book
This book is simply beautiful. My children love it. We've shared it regularly for several years, my eldest is now 8 (a boy) and he still loves it. The children all know it by heart and if we've had a challenging day, its said together at bedtime to emphasise how much we love them ... despite the challenging behaviour! They frequently ask for this book and will read it themselves. They also read it to teddy bears, dolls etc. Our kids are adopted and this has been the best book for them to explore the idea of unconditional love, having not always known that previously. We don't like the phrase 'sometimes you're bad' because we don't think children are 'bad' just exhibit bad behaviour at times, but that is truly the only thing we'd change, and we often say something along those lines as we read it. Sometimes we substitute 'you' for the child's name, or even 'mummy' or 'daddy' which always gets a laugh. This book is amazing. Every home should have one. I'm just buying a replacement for the rather dog-eared copy we have, I'm sure it will be loved for years to come, by us all.

Lovely book!
Adore this story!!! We have a little one who isn’t always as well behaved as we would like, she struggles a lot with her feelings and doesn’t have much confidence. We read this once in a library when she was about 5 and it made her cry because it was her down to a T. We bought it for her for Christmas this year at 9 years old and it brought back those same feelings that regardless of what she does we love her. We read it whenever she feels down and upset and it really helps her feel much better. It’s really for younger children but for us it’s a special memory we share. Definitely recommend.

Smaller than I expected and boring text
I bought this because I have the book Love by Emma Dodd, which my son loves.I thought this would be a very similar book but it is pretty awful. (sometimes I am bad- on one page!!!!)No emotional text as in the previous book.It is also much smaller than the last book. This is not what I will be reading with my son.

Perfect words and illustrations showing a mother's lover for her child.
Simple, evocative illustrations with a lovely rhyme throughout.Describes a mother's love perfectly without being over the top and schmaltzy.Gives plenty of opportunities for discussion when your little one is able to talk, but we loved to read and look at the pictures at bedtime from about 6 months.

Good but there are better Emma Dodd books available
I have several Emma Dodd books in hardback and paperback and ordered these for a friend's little boy's birthday. They are lovely books but not as good as the non-cardboard books. Forever, Love and Together are better books overall but these are great for letting baby look at independently with no worry that they will tear (and eat) pages!
