JNU Anant JNU Katha Ananta (Hindi Edition)

delightful book, must read
A delightful and much needed book in today’s environment of deliberate, false and negative propaganda against JNU. The author takes us onto a journey through JNU and through personal accounts acquaints the reader with the ‘real’ JNU, as opposed to the ‘anti-national’ JNU depicted in the media. You get to hear about the history of JNU and its evolution through the years through a very engaging narrative. Being a JNU alumni myself I was very excited to see that even though I had separated from JNU nearly 30 years ago, the character of JNU has not changed. As the author describes, the very reason for establishment of JNU was a need to have an academic environment where humanities students could excel. Subjects such as international studies, sociology and international politics can only be studied through healthy discourse. And that discourse may challenge traditional views or criticize the government policies. But is it not through debate that we learn to be better and should that not be the aim of every educational institution? To encourage us to strive to make this world a better place? JNU is unique in that it provides that environment. The environment for free-thought, where you can be yourself without any judgement from others. In majority of Indian Universities, students of humanities simply memorize the textbooks and there is not much room for original thought, but not in JNU. The author gives several examples to prove that this is the reason graduates of JNU go on to do well in life. As the author explains so well, most universities award a degree but JNU makes you a human. The book is sprinkled with small thoughtful poems which add to its beauty, such as “Kya hai JNU” on page 97 and “615 number ki bus” which took me down the memory lane. Finally, just want to give a shout out to the title of the book, which is an apt metaphor to Tulsidas’s chaupai (Hari Anant Hari Katha Ananta), meaning that God is infinite and one can never completely understand him. Well, JNU is … JNU. You will never get it until you live there. Thank you so much Jey Sushil for sharing this book with us. Looking forward to your next book.P.S. I am sorry that this review is in English, I am a little out of practice after being away from Hindi for 30 years. Reading this book in Hindi just added to its charm.

(Jey Sushil )Wishing you many more books !
