Ultimate Force - Complete Series [DVD]

The SAS cannot fail to make a great subject for TV or film. Ultimate Force does not, in my opinion, glamorise or desensitise us to the inevitable violence in each episode.Series 3 and 4 had a significantly different cast and many of the plotlines from the first two series are left hanging. I agree with other reviewers here, Series 1 and 2 were more character driven. However, as the character development wasn't always handled too well (a lot of shots of Jamie Draven staring into space isn't really character development), Series 3 and 4 with their more direct approach are not bad at all, and sometimes better for it.The series 2 closer, Death Is Forever, contains one of those rare TV moments: a scene that will shock you to the core and make you disbelieve what you have just witnessed. Ross Kemp's Henno becomes forever ambiguous after this.Miles Anderson's Major Patrick Dempsey is both hilarious and very convincing as the bluff CO.Let's be honest, it isn't always the very best scripting, but most episodes are engrossing and entertaining.Ultimate Force was a ratings fail. It would probably not even be commissioned in 2018 as war stories seem to be out the window. However, if you like some action and insight into special forces and intelligence, you'll love Ultimate Force!Update: The DVD is well worth the money. For example, Series 1 Episode 1 is much longer than the one that is broadcast on the re-run channels. It is 1 hr 15 mins, but I recently saw the same episode on CBS Action clocking in at about 50 minutes. I wonder if I watch more episodes whether I will find that TV re-runs are only telling me half the story?

Very well written. Interviews give an insight on the operations the episodes are based on. Only one issue. SAS teams are not used on bank sieges. All other operations are very plausible.

I also tend to agree with the reviews that seasons 1 & 2 are superior; however, I actually prefer the action that takes place outside the UK. A contrast for sure. The writing is not as tight as it could have been, especially re: the first episode of season 3 where 3-major and several minor characters were either killed off (in one scene) or disappeared with feeble explanations (I.E. "I had to get rid of her, as I couldn't have her mooning about"). There was a US show "The Unit" which seems to have "borrowed" the plot formula with a bit more emphasis on the family relationship angle. If you liked "Ultimate Force", you should like "The Unit".Mired in one of the weakest US TV seasons in recent memory, I find myself going to the DVD's much earlier than usual and at less than $30 for 4-seasons this is an absolute bargain!

Priced at just £5.75 you really can't get more for your money than this.Ultimate Force is a really great action show, for me it's kind of like The Unit, but without all of that soppy wives stuff that comes with The Unit.For me, Ultimate Force seemed to get better each season. I wasn't really a big fan of the first season, the second season was really great.In Season 3 and the episodes were cut to four. but the episode length was extended. And the final season had 5 episodes.I can't honestly find much to dislike about the show, as it really is one of my favorites and should have been longer than four seasons.So in summary, anybody who loves action shows should get this. Five star rating for a great Action, Drama show. And the awesomeness that is Henno Garvie!

Ultimate force is an amazing series, which managed to span for 4 series. The first 2 series are a lot better than the last 2, but none the less, I have no issues with watching the whole entire series, back to back. The link into each other quite well. The quality of the DVDs themselves are second to none, held in a secure box, which seems to be similar to that of a VHS box.If you have seen Ultimate force on the TV, and enjoyed it, YOU HAVE TO GET THIS BOXSET.

Ultimate Force - Complete Series [DVD] [2002 ]This is a wonderful present for the "little soldier" in your life or maybe for yourself if you have a crush on the many wonderful actors in the series.It is well packaged with all the DVDs, containing over 20 hours of viewing, neatly stored in a surprising small folder. My partner originally had each series seperately but this product allowed him to part with the others and gave him more storage space.The series started well but, in my opinion only, I think the makers were running out of money towards the end as the special effects were a bit silly in the last few episodes.The delivery was very good and came within the specified timescales so all in all this is a wonderful bargain.
