A great taster menu of woodworking projects!
I love this book, which was one of the first to really turn me on to the potential and possibilities of woodworking. The short menu of projects range in complexity from making the simple but elegant stool on the cover to reproducing Thomas Jefferson's intricate travelling writing desk. As usual from Fine Woodworking, the construction diagrams are first class and works of beauty in themselves (the cigar humidor comes to mind here). Just wonderful!

Stylish
There are some stylish pieces in this book good for the more advanced beginner. My only concern is that for UK wood workers wood is not cheap and so you have to think outside the box if you want a very nice looking piece of furniture.

Well written with some good projects.
Well written with a few really nice projects. As with most books of this type not all the projects will suit all tastes but there’s enough variety that every woodworker should find interest in a few.Worth reading in full as even those projects you have little interest in will garner useful info you can use in the future.

Not for the average woodworker
A little disappointed, the small projects listed were rather beyond the talents of the average wookworker- not so well advised in other reviews seen. Only get this if you are a expert!

Good purchase
Excellent book full of wonderful woodworking ideas, tips and tools/techniques. Husband thrilled to bits with it, as a surprise gift and thoroughly recommends it to intermediate to advanced woodworkers.
