I purchased this 4 way combination ladder after a lot of research into the possible methods of decorating an area of my stairwell that was awkward to reach.A standard extension ladder rested up against the tallest wall still left an area unreachable and the use of a scaffold plank was prevented by a turn in the stairs. Therefore, the only solution was the use of a block on one stair to allow me to use the ladder against the wall perpendicular to the stairs, a tower or a combination ladder. A block seemed unsafe and a tower seemed too expensive, so I opted for a combination ladder.In terms of combination ladders I considered the 10-14 way ladders but discounted them as they require unfolding to the desired layout which I didn't want to undertake in a cramped stairwell. Furthermore, whilst I could've stepped the ladder off the tallest wall to reach the area I required, the stair layout of the 3 and 4 way combination ladders offered a better solution and could be moved further back up the stairs if required.I then considered the 3 and 4 way options. I opted for the 4 way as it not only offered a free standing extension ladder and thus more reach, but also as the stabiliser bar felt safer when at height in comparison to just the wide legs provided on the 3 way. Moreover, when the 4 way is used in the same layout as the 3 way offers, one section of the 4 way is doubled up and the rungs are doubled in width; this offers more comfort to your feet.It should be noted that the product is quite a bit heavier than the Abru 3 way and more expensive, but I would still recommend the 4 way for the given reasons. Extra reach, extra stability and extra comfort, once in position. I found the product easy to use on my own, although a second pair of hands is beneficial in areas where you really want to be careful eg. close to freshly decorated walls!Moving on from the stairwell, I can see this ladder proving useful in many other situations. Particularly, if you do not own another standard extension ladder or in situations where there is nothing to rest a standard extension ladder on.

This little ladder is a very useful piece of equipment. we decided to decorate the stairs and needed something between a full 3.9mtr extending ladder and a step ladder. we bought the shortest one available and it fits the bill perfectly.On the down side, the catches that lock the extending part of the ladder in place can be a little trickey to master, you need one hand to release the catch, one hand to extend the ladder, and a third hand to hold the top to prevent the whole thing falling over - it took two of us when extending the ladder on the stairs. Other that that the stabilising bar is good and the treads comfortable.Delivery took three working days :)

great for reaching the bulkheads on stairs, not so good on the kite winders though as the cross piece is a little wide to sit flat but when i need em they do the job. a little big so dont carry them in my van all the time. Very solid have no worries when working on them they are heavy duty ladders and a bonus is they reach the first floor windows ,JUST.

My last set of combination ladders [different make to these] was quite old and somehow one part had slightly bowed. Well they twisted badly when I fell from them. These ladders are a vast improvement on my old ones. Why?They are designed for up to 150kg, my weight hovers 95 to 100kg so these ladders *will* reliably take my weight.The extra wide base provides better vertical stability.With three pieces of ladder and a build quality for 150kg I was worried about the weight of the ladder and ease of manoeuvrability. Neither is a problem.Some have commented on the difficult latches - well I don't find them difficult (either to operate, or figure out how they work); my only comment is the edges you press are fairly sharp and narrow. But I have not cut myself, nor do I feel in danger of doing so.

It did the job. Allowed me to paint the landing ceiling and paper around the stair well.It felt a bit wobbly to start with, but I soon got used to it.Our stairs are quite steep and it only just worked - I had to be careful to not go beyond a safe height.On more normal stairs I'm sure it would work better.

Bought to decorate stairs/landing. Does the job but the legs are not a good fit to our stairs, which I assumed were fairly standard. With the bottom feet on one step, the upper feet only just rest on a higher step. Also the stabiliser bar only just fits the width of the stairs.

We bought this ladder as a multipurpose ladder and it has been used so far for both getting up to the guttering and for trimming tall hedges. However, putting it up is not for the faint hearted, my husband struggled and he is quite strong - I've yet to try it and confirm this but he's usually pretty good with that kind of thing so I am so far leaving it all to him!

I've been using this ladder for just over a month now. I chose it because it looked like it would be a good choice for painting my stairwell but I've also used it in the garden several times were I was previously struggling to prune some fruit trees. As an extended stepladder, it has proven itself to be extremely useful and has made tasks like this much more manageable and safer.A couple of people have noted that it takes some practice learning how to set it up, but it's not too bad in that regard. Once you figure it out, it's quite easy to put up and take down. I consider this ladder to be excellent value for money (it was around £100 when I bought it).
