The very simplicity of the story will make it a good choice for helping young ones learn to read, as you point to each word while you pronounce it.Follow along as the vengeful fly sequentially swallows a series of items calculated to get back at the “old lady” who swallowed a fly, lo these many years ago. You may find yourself enjoying this one every bit as much as your kids do!There is some concern over teaching children the concept of "revenge" at a young age, which is perfectly understandable. However, as a school teacher, I would never consider reading anything to my class without first carefully reading it through for myself, to ascertain whether it is appropriate. I think this book is far better suited for reading to one's own children, rather than a large classroom group.

I returned this book. I am a k-8 Librarian, who shares the “The Old Lady” series with my students every month. I received this, opened it to pre read, and noticed the illustrations were terrible. They were as if the illustrator googled pictures and cut and pasted them in.

Loved this book, a must have for your collection. Good for all ages!

Especially since he was already familiar with the original version, this reversal really tickled his funny bone, and, since he is now learning to read, he could, for the most part read it himself. The drawings are great and really illustrate the story. Even the adults appreciated it.

It's a funny, backwards, version of the original "There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly." I recommend 5 stars!
