Best series of hiking guides out there. I buy one for every park I visit.
This is an excellent series of books that has helped make our hiking trips to Yellowstone, Tetons, and Olympic National Parks all great experiences. I hope they publish more of these books for other national parks. Rocky Mountain and Zion, please! It can be difficult, when you aren't familiar with a park and you have limited time, to decide which trails are worth doing and what points of interest to expect along the way. This book does a great job of distilling huge systems of trails in these parks down to the most exciting, iconic, and worthwhile day hikes and backpacking trips. There is also so so much valuable practical information on seasonal trail conditions, avoiding crowds, getting to the trail head, little known points of interest, difficulty and terrain, campsites, and more. I think these are the best and most thorough hiking guides I have ever owned.

Difficult to Navigate
For some reason I found this book difficult to navigate easily. The author seemed to omit usual local landmarks, particularly campgrounds and good maps to make trail selections practical. For Olympic National Park this was particularly problematic in that the park is so spread out. I will look at it again next time I go, and update my review if I may have been hasty, but this book did not help me on my recent trip.

Good read. Humorous writer.
I loved this guide! Very informative. I only used it for the Hoh rainforest and colonel Bob wilderness but it was pretty accurate and easy to navigate with his directions. I used it more than my map. Granted this was my first extreme camping/backpacking trip; I had no idea what I was doing and this book was very helpful.
