Ideal starter set for Dungeons & Dragons role play
If you are just setting out in the world of Dungeons & Dragons or other role playing games this starter set from The Army Painter may be an ideal entry level way to start creating your own characters.I used to do a load of model painting and this set includes pretty much everything to get you started. There are 5 miniatures that snap together easily - you may want to use a fine knife just to trim of the final bits of sprue - and maybe some modelling adhesive- but they do just snap together.Everything gets painted with a base coat first then the rest is pretty much up to you how you create your characters. There are a good range of different colour paints included along with a fine brush so you can create your own detail. If you don't know know where to start the included book will walk you through that.Don't necessarily expect the results on the box but if you are patient and take your time you can get some decent results. If your kids are interested it's a good set of challenges & skills ro learn too.The cost seems to be pretty much on par with other similar kits that are out there.I've no problem giving this 4* as a good starter set.

An Ideal Starter Set
Army painter products have a good reputation amongst the wargaming and role playing community. This set upholds that reputation. A good selection of paints, a decent fine detail brush that has so far lasted well with heavy use, and a decent set of 28/32m "adventurer" figures. These are one piece plastic figures that obviously aren't as detailed as some white metal and resin figures but are good enough to paint up very nicely. This set would make an ideal starter set or present for someone new to the hobby. Highly recommended.

A set with 5 adventurers, paint pots are small, cost is on a par with other sets but not cheap.
A set that gives you the paint (20 bottles, this includes a primer and two washes so you only really get 17 true pigments), instructions, brush and a group of 5 adventures (Hight between 36mm and 60mm, including swords and staffs) for D&D and other role playing games.First thing I noted with this paint model set was that the paint bottles are small and about half the size of other Army painter and Vallejo paint products. They are designed for miniatures and meant to be thinned with water and you get enough for the supplied models and more besides. It’s just that after being so used to the larger sizes and looking at the cost of the box I feel a little hard done by.The paint goes on well and is easy to thin, the models are well moulded and need only a little clean up. I did have difficulty with some as the mould line runs right down the centre of some of the character faces and this makes them difficult to remove without obliterating the face detail. The models require no glue to assemble them but if you have some plastic glue I think it would be best to use a drop especially if you are going to handle them a lot. The paint brush is okay for fine detail but I would have preferred a slightly larger one that could hold more paint.Overall I think it is a good all in one starter set. Cost wise a pack of 5 D&D adventurer minis on Amazon look to be around £15-£25 although I don't know how good their moulding is and you get paints with this set. So in the grand scheme of things and the price of these sorts of models and paints command it is probably on a par with other sets. I will leave it up to you if you think this is too much though.I am going to paint mine and will add pictures when they are done. Then it’s off down the local dungeon for some adventure.

Comprehensive and high-quality set
This is a great beginner set, and has single-handedly gotten me back into Warhammer and miniatures. In the pack, you get a basic but very functional brush alongside 20 different paints and a selection of models to experiment on.It's been about 25 years since I last painted, and so it was news to me that there were different types of paints - primers and washes for example. Back when I did them, you got a few pots of standard acrylic paints and did your best.Thankfully, there are helpful guides in the pack that gave me an overview of the more modern technique of building the colour up with different types of paint and painting. If you're a complete beginner, like me, you might need some additional items to get the models off their sprues - a miniature clipper and a mould-line remover to scrape off any bumps before painting. In terms of the paints, I have no complaints, they apply well, dry quickly, and can be thinned where necessary. The acrylics give a nice solid colour, though may need a couple of coats if you opt for a darker primer, and the washes add very nice subtle depth.Alas, my skills aren't the best, so while the colours are lovely, the application is anything but.For a beginner, it's a truly comprehensive set with everything you'd need to get started.

Perfect beginners kit or replacement
You can never have enough paint or extra figures. This kit provides all the beginner colours you need to start this great hobby for any age. I have painted these figures for 30 years and never get bored and always need new paints.

Good starter set
I think this is a good starter set. This is my first time in trying out this sort of product, and I find that this paint, brush and included figures is an easy way to be initiated into the realm of model painting. The paints are of good quality and apply smoothly, and they dry relatively quickly. A bonus is you do not have a smell like you get with oil based enamel paints. Cleaning up is easy, just clean water.Perhaps the bottles could have been a more usual 18ml size, but I am just nit-picking really. This is a good set with a pretty comprehensive range of colours (of course, colours can be mixed to increase the range) and I think represents reasonable value. Recommended.
