Probably the best buy I made lately
I compared several similar products and tested a few ones at the local stores. As a lantern, none seemed to have the lumen output of this unit and the ones I have at home can only compare if I set them at max level and the Secur on low level. This is hands down, the best lantern. As a flashlight, it's weak. Compares easily to the other hand crank flashlights I have.It is, however, the best collapsible lantern + flashlight + emergency phone charger, with the added bonus of being compact, rainproof, 2 power levels and also charges via DC port.

It's alright...
This doesn't work as a phone charger, not on an iPhone 5s anyway. Trying to turn the crank at the correct speed to regulate the current is totally impossible and the phone reminds you that it's not compatible when it's cranked too slowly or too quickly... it may even cause damage if turned too fast which could result in a power surge. I'm not gonna take the chance to be honest. That said, it's a nifty light which is ideal for the car, travel etc.

Used by my other half for reading during camp, so gives out plenty of light. Collapses to make a decent torch (for it being a secondary function) and that sucker is so small and light, you can fit it in your pocket if there is not more room for packing in your bag.

Very Satisfied
Was pleasantly surprised at the amount of light generated. Body seems rugged enough and the flashlight feature is well designed

Bought this recently and have only used it at home. It's a very clever design, and has two light settings. A single button controls the lamp - on/low, high and off. In the open position the low setting gives enough light to enable you to move about safely. The high setting is bright enough to read by. When it's closed and switched on, it acts as a torch - again with a low and high setting. The one issue I've had to date is that it tend to spring open and I'm hoping that, with use, the 'accordian' section will become more pliable and it will stay shut when closed. Will update this review later if necessary.

Small, Light, More Than Just A Flashlight
Last week I found a box full of test samples of this new line of safety products from Secur outside my door. I've been having fun ever since floating flashlights in bowls of water, "raining" on a shower full of "rainproof" gadgets, testing various ways to charge things and more. Of all the items in the box, I think this Secur Rainproof Collapsible Hand crank LED Lantern & Flashlight is my favorite. Since the manufacturer says this is waterproof, I wanted to see for myself so I put it into the shower for five minutes. I've opened and closed it countless times, charged it by way of both a USB cable and the hand crank, and even taken it into the pitch-black hall at 3 am to see if it gave enough light to read by. It passed every test with flying colors.▶︎ In the package - the lantern itself, along with one male and one female USB cords. With a collapsed size of just 2 x 3.5 inches and a weight of just over 6 ounces, the lantern is plenty small enough to fit in a purse, a glove compartment or carry along on a hiking trip. In the collapsed position the Secur Rainproof Collapsible Hand crank LED Lantern & Flashlight functions as a flashlight with high and low lighting levels. When the device is in the open position it functions as a lantern with high and low light levels. High is bright enough to read by. A folding handle by which the lantern can be suspended can be found on the same end of the device as the hand crank. On that same side, directly opposite the Secur logo, you will find the power button. A DC port is located under the adjacent seal. The unit is an easy to spot but not reflective bright yellow with a rubberized coating. The unit has a life expectancy of at least 5 yearsA full charge via USB takes about 4 hours and will provide about 4.5 hours of light on the low setting or 40 minutes of light on the high setting.▶︎ The ability to charge both the Secur Rainproof Collapsible Hand crank LED Lantern & Flashlight and your cell phone or other device by way of the hand crank makes this an ideal emergency power source. One minute of turning the crank at about 3 revolutions per minute will give you 4 minutes of high level light or 11 minutes of low level light.▶︎ To charge your cell phone, iPod or other device, plug the included female USB cord into the DC port of the collapsed lantern, then plug your standard device USB cable into the female end. Turn the crank at a rate of bout 3 clockwise revolutions per minute to charge your device. As long as you keep turning the crank, your cell phone or device will keep charging.▶︎ The manufacturer recommends that you crank the handle for 1 minute once a month to prolong battery life.Grandma's $0.02 - Small size, light weight and ability to provide an emergency charge to your cell phone make this a super addition to your glove compartment, backpack or emergency supplies.Highly recommended
