Exceptional book.
The artwork is truly fantastic, covering every inch of each page with glorious cosy festive colours, and images that really convey the magical sense of wonder that the Christmas season brings. From a snowy outdoor night time scene to basking in the light of the Christmas tree, you really feel you are a part of the story, and the large double-page picture at the end is magnificent. The story itself is simple, but engaging, and told in poem form. The book will make a lovely Christmas gift for my young relative.Only one minor quibble: although the spellings have been adjusted for the European market, it is still obvious the story was written for an American audience. Some examples: using 'Christmas tree lot' instead of nursery/farm/shop, 'sled' instead of sledge, 'lay' instead of lie, 'trimmings' instead of decorations, rhyming 'dolls' with 'balls', calling lametta 'tinsel' and calling tinsel 'garland'. Children won't care, but reading as an adult it can jar a little.

A must for people who love Christmas trees
This is a gorgeous book, we are a very enthusiastic family when it comes to decorating Christmas trees so this is a really nostalgic, warm and fuzzy, rhyming favourite, already.

Lovely book.
My 2.5 year old loves this book and asks for it every night. It’s magical and really gets us in the festive spirit. It’s particularly good if you make an occasion of selecting a real tree each year.

A beautiful new tradition
I see a new tradition with reading this book each year before pouring a cup of hot chocolate and decorating the tree. Simple, beautiful lyrics capture the warmth and joy of picking out and turning a regular pine tree into a wonderful Christmas decoration. Illustrations are gorgeous and it feels like watching beautiful scenery through windows while snow gently falls.

A Kids Christmas Book You’ll Love Reading With Them
We bought this book for our two year old who is obsessed with all things Christmas. She loves pointing out the pictures, and I love having sweet holiday rhymes that don’t drive me up the wall when I’m asked to read them 30 times in a row. This one is sure to become a Christmas tradition in our house!

Nice Lilting Rhythmic Poetic Children's Book All About Decorating the Christmas tree.
"Pick A Pine Tree" by Patrica Toht and illustrated by Jarvis is a small Children's Lilting Rhythmic Poetic Christmas book which measures 7 1/2 inches by 8 3/4 inches and has 32 pages. Each page is printed on heavy paper almost like card stock which is a real plus because children will not tear the pages as quickly. Each page is a full page full color illustration with only one line of poetry text on each page. The artist's illustrations center in on the most important part in the line of poetry on each page. The poem is all about finding a Christmas tree and all the preparations needed to make the tree a truly great finished decorated tree. I like that the author encourages readers to call their friends and relatives to help decorate their Christmas tree and have a tree decorating party. After reading 30 pages of simple rhyming poetic words, the reader is treated to an extra special surprise at the end of the book - a beautiful two page pop up of a multi tiered fully decorated Christmas Tree. Because the story is written in simple lilting rhythmic style, this book should be read out loud. The book would make an excellent read aloud in lower elementary classrooms and also for all your young children. It would be neat to read this story out loud as you gather with your family and friends to decorate your Christmas tree.

Five Stars
Wonderfully sweet book for the Christmas season. Patricia Toht has a delightfully engaging style of writing that is fun for children as well as adults. Check out another favorite by Toht, All Aboard The London Bus, also available from Amazon.

Wonderful artwork
I really like this book. Firstly, the artwork is absolutely stunning. I was looking for a Holiday book for my children that would capture the warm glow of that season, and this absolutely delivered. I was blown away by how beautiful the pictures were. Highly recommend!

Beautiful, future classic in our home
We're suckers for a good Christmas book around here, and this one was the perfect addition to our collection! Beautiful illustrations, a good rhyme pattern, kept my 16 month old's attention (though he's been doing well with "paper" books for months, so it's probably better suited to ages 2+). The diverse characters matched all of my son's little friends, which I'm grateful for. I love that it feels vintage-y, like a book that I could have read every Christmas growing up, even though it's "new". Already excited to pull it back out in the years to come and have it be a Christmas classic in our home.

Cute book
I really like the illustrations in this book, and the way they did the cover is really pretty. The story is similar to the pick a pumpkin book, where they pick a pine tree, take it home and decorate it (with friends of course). It’s a cute Christmas book.

Perfect for our Christmas Collection
This Christmas book focuses on the process of getting and decorating a tree. My 2 year old loves it and I enjoy the beautiful illustrations, the diversity included in the book, and the short lines on each page. Santa plays a very minor role: he's mentioned as part of the tree decorations, one character is pictured wearing a Santa hat, and the final page shows Santa delivering presents inside the house. Since this book is all about the tree-trimming tradition, it's a great addition to your library and will stand apart from many other Christmas books that repeat themes. As other reviewers have mentioned, in some places the poetry is a bit forced or changes meter, but I give this book 5 stars anyway. We'll be reading this book for years!

Gorgeous pictures and fun rhyming text.
I love the pictures and rhyming text is cute. It is geared toward a younger audience, but both my 4 and 8 year olds loved the pictures. It has a cool retro feel! This is definitely one to add to your Christmas library.

Festive way to share Christmas tradition 🎄
I love this book. It walks through the steps of selecting, bringing home, and decorating a Christmas tree. It’s a beautiful book; the illustrations are colorful and festive. It would be perfect for teaching sequence of events and rhyme. My favorite thing about it is that it definitely gives me warm fuzzies and Christmas spirit. As expats, we don’t have a Christmas tree. I wanted to share this Christmas tradition with my son and, with this book, I can!

Charming Christmas Book!
What a charming Christmas story. I loved reading this book to my son. He liked looking at the Christmas Trees. He is 2 now so it’s a little over his head but I really enjoyed this one and hope to read it to my kids for many Christmas seasons to come!
