Oh YES! Help for my 80 pound Pit Bull puppy with severe separation anxiety.
Let me tell you a story about Buster, the Blue Nosed Pit Bull.In November, we had a visitor. Okay, a stowaway. Squatter? A malnourished, scared-to-death, living in the desert for God-knows-how-long, terribly conditioned blue nosed pit bull puppy. We couldn't turn him away--he needed our help. We already have 4 dogs-3 beagles (2 of which are elderly) and a lab (who is also elderly). It was quite a transition. That's a lot of weight (even undernourished) to be bouncing on 20 pound elderly beagles. But we made it happen. They are now the happy family.Usually there is someone at home here. A person to open the door, tend to needs of doggies, and snuggle and play--especially when they are feeling needy. When we leave, it's bad.Buster, as he was aptly named (he ran into me and broke my toe--both of our faults, really) gets simply terrified when he's left alone--even in the group of his canine family. Even now, 5 months later, he loses it. He rips the cable lines from the walls, chews stucco, digs craters, and is simply an emotional wreck. I cannot even consider leaving him inside, as I'm sure the house would be destroyed. I can't crate him, as he was so abused from whence he came. When we get home, he's SO happy that he pees all over himself and can't stop from jumping and knocking us down.I saw these advertised and thought, "why not?"The first time I used this, I put it on him before I left. I was gone about 4 hours and when I came home, I was prepared for the usual craziness. He was FINE. He was certainly happy, but not out of control, and no peeing or jumping. I started using it only when we were gone (I kept the collar sealed in a ziplock in the refrigerator when not in use) and it was GREAT! Once, my boyfriend forgot to put it on and when he got back 2 hours later, it was the usual freak-out session, complete with newly-dug craters in the yard.I was afraid that the collar would lose its effectiveness if I left it on him continuously. I was wrong. I forgot to remove it a week ago when I got home, and decided to go ahead and leave it to see how he did. He's been AWESOME.I have now recommended these training collars to friends, who swear by them, too.I am looking forward to the day where we don't have to have them--but until then, it's a tiny price to pay to help him not lose his mind with fear when we are gone. And Buster, the wonder Pit, is now 80 pounds of solid sweetness, and ever-so-appreciative every day of his new home.

Doesn't work
I wanted to try this for my Terrier and it did not work for her at all. I did try another brand just for the benefit of the doubt and that one did not work either. Don't waste your money. Just spend some time with your dog doing calming exercises with them and they will be fine after a time.My Terrier is from a puppy mill situation and has extreme separation anxiety issues. All I do when I have to go away is place a zap collar on her, not turning it on, but she doesn't know that does she?, only the very first few times did I have to have it on just to let her know what it does. On the lowest setting it is only like you walking across the carpet and touching a door knob and getting a static shock. So she thinks that it is on when I put her inside her crate and then leave here there for only a few minutes at a time, say 5 minutes the first few times, then gradually extend the time she is in there by 5 minutes each time. Over the course of a month or so, using the aide of the zap collar your dog will settle down. Now my Terrier after a year goes into the crate by herself for naps and also when I ask her to even though she knows she is going to get locked int here. I leave her for as long as 6 hours at a time and when I get home, although she is very ready to get out, she will come out and sit outside the crate door quietly and wait for me to take her collar off before I say okay you can go now.Don't waste your money on stuff like this, just spend some time with your dog, the results are very rewarding for both you and your dog.

Doesn't work to calm
This did nothing to calm my dog like I'd hoped, so not worth the price. But if anyone complains that the smell is overpowering it's because they are oversensitive to smells. Yes, it's fragrant, and you will have no trouble smelling it while your dog is on your lap, but it is not over powering and certainly not strong enough to make you have to air out the house.

Like a Different Dog
I have an 8 month old Havanese. She is full of energy and, unfortunately, I am not. She has showed of boredom and anxiety almost all the time which was complicated by a very tough time with her teething-the worst I've ever seen in a puppy. The weather has kept us in further raising her level of boredom and anxiety as she's not gotten out to burn some of her endless energy off. I bought this collar before she went in to be spayed hoping it would help keep her quiet for the week-10 days of recovery. There was a decided change in her the 1st day and it's now been on her 12 days and she's still showing a very positive response. Prior to putting the collar on her she was never much for cuddling or snuggling. Her time on the bed with me was spent tearing up pillows, sheets, comforters. Now, she cuddles up for a nap with me 2 or 3 times a day and a simple 'no' corrects the problems with tearing up my bedding. I've worked to try to train her to stop unwanted behaviors and encourage good behavior with very few results. Now, it almost seems as if all the things I've tried to teach her these past 6 mos have come together. We still have an issue here and there but her excessive barking, licking, crying have almost all disappeared. She even comes most of the time when called, now. I think this collar did calm her anxiety and allow her to become the dog she always was under all that anxiety. I've just ordered a 3 pack and plan to use this for as long as it keeps working as it has been which I hope is a very long time.
