Survivors a legend it beats its remake!
This series scares me as this Corona Virus hits then Survivors very much scares people! It was created by Terry Nation who created the Daleks in Doctor Who as what he wrote was one of the most Gripping series made in the series! The ending was strange and I feel a sequal to Survivors showing what's happened to everyone fourty years on! There was a BBC remake ten years ago it only lasted two seasons before being abruptly axed I liked it but it was killed off but you can't beat Terry Nations seventies original classic!

Spooky Viewing Again in March 2020 as COVID-19 is Hitting the UK
I watched this as a child and bought the set in 2015. I started to re-watch on 18 March 2020 at the point when the UK was heading towards lock-down at the time of writing this review (19 March 2020) the closure of schools, for an unknown period, had been announced earlier in the day.Watching the first series there are obvious similarities with current events and I am seeing in a different light now. Well worth a watch very typical of the mid-1970s period, the acting is not always the best and the camera work is not great in parts (there was some sort of a dispute when the second series was filmed, which partially accounts for that!). Nevertheless very watchable for what it is and interesting now as a historical piece. People who have lived through current events will pick up the links with COVID-19 events, which are uncanny, the spread of the virus, human behaviour etc. Addition: I'm well into the first series now (23 March 2020, pubs, restaurants now closed and the high street is winding down, lockdown now seems likely) getting disturbing survivors are forming into communities and dispensing justice, hope we are not heading in this direction in 2020!Well worth buying for those with an interest in cult British television or for general interest.

Nothing like I remember but still watchable.
Covid 19 is what reminded me of this series, and the similarities are quite uncanny. A flu like virus released (accidentally) from a laboratory in China!!I remember watching this first time around in the mid 70s. I enjoyed it then, so when I saw it released on DVD I thought I'd give it another go.It's not at all how I remember it. Maybe it's just different times, after all it was 45 years ago. But watching it now is quite disappointing. The acting for most part is very wooden and amateurish. Special effects leave a lot to be desired, they are at times more amateurish than the acting. The editing really doesnt work at times, a couple of times things just havent made sense, or it seems to miss a lot out. As an example, for a couple of episodes of series 3 there was a mini driving around. Charles and Jenny were desperate to find out who was driving it incase it was Greg. And then the mini turned up with another acquaintance who they had been staying with driving it and Charles and Jenny never even mentioned it. It was like there had been loads cut out. And there is of course the possibility that its had the usual cuts for fear of offending!!In all the quality of this in all parts simply wouldnt be acceptable today. But I have to admit, I'm still enjoying it and it is very addictive, so for that reason I've given it 3 stars. If I was judging it on quality of acting, editing and effects only then it would be less than none!!I'm one episode from the end of the last series. I'm definitely enjoying it but I think there will be more to add at the end!!

1970's scifi nostalgia at its best.
Terrific Terry Nation ! Its all been said in the other 5 star reviews but here are some other thoughts: Wonderfully full of 1970's nostalgia. Big Hair, Big Collars, Big Coats, Sideburns and heels and that's just the men. And those vintage motors - when you could start a car by splicing wires together under the dash board - those were the days. Survivors is not without its horror though; the prime example in series 1 has to be when Greg first picks up a guitar and starts to 'sing'.

A post apocalyptic survival series
very old - I watched this as a child on BBC - but still one of my favourite post apocalyptic series, which makes you think....what would I do in that situation... how would I survive?Towards the end of the series it gets all a bit far fetched and I feel the series 'looses the plot' a bit, but all the same a great box set.

One of the best things i've watched in ages.
Even though this is from the 70s the picture quality and sound is spot on, not like some of the modern movies and TV where the sound is loud when the music is on and quiet when the actors are speaking. Good story line and I think a lot of what is put forward in this series still holds true today, I think a lot of people would struggle to survive without water on tap, central heating, food from the supermarkets etc. Some of it is a bit naïve but I would rather watch this than the mass of bombs, explosions, guns and over the top special effect that have become a bit tiresome for me. A real bargain, a lot for your money.

70's classic.
I was 8 when this was first aired, & the opening titles still manage to stir upthose eerie feelings I got back in '75 when this came on & dad said "oi! bedtime!"For those too young to know, it's "Walking Dead" without the Zombies.Filmed in & around Herefordshire (many scenes in a pre done up Hampton Court castle)it tells the tale of a group of ordinary plague survivors, well...surviving, & developing theskills we've all lost being so reliant on supermarkets & technology.Despite the flares & dodgy haircuts it does stand the test of time well.
